Wayne's World is a comedy starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey and is inspired by the "Wayne's World" skits that Myers and Carvey used to do on "Saturday Night Live".
Myers and Carvey play Wayne and Garth, two slacker friends who run a TV show out of Wayne's parents' house, which Wayne still lives at. They mainly just sit around and talk about the two main things that interest them, music and women. They are both big heavy metal fans, and spend a lot of their time partying. The show is quite popular, even though it's only on public cable. It catches the eye of Ben Kane (Rob Lowe), a slimy TV executive who offers Wayne and Garth a deal to be on his TV network in Chicago and to be sponsored by Noah Vanderhoff (Brian Doyle-Murray). Meanwhile, Wayne falls in love with Cassandra, a female singer with a rock n' roll band. Unbeknownst to him though, Ben has a secret plan to oust them from their own show and to steal Cassandra away from Wayne.
This is a film very much in the style of Naked Gun, with a lot of subtle gags you may miss the first time around and a lot of 'play on words' type moments. Wayne knows he's making the film, and sometimes talks to the viewers to tell them what's going on. It pre-dates the post modern ironic scenes that films like "Scream" made popular.
There are a lot of funny moments, and that's helped by a great script. There are great spoofs of advertising within films (one of the best parts of the film) and gratuitous sex scenes. It's all very tongue in cheek and there to show up some of the absurdities in the film industry. The acting is great, Myers and Carvey have been doing these characters for a while before making this movie and they have great chemistry together. Lowe is good as the slimy bad guy in the film and Tia Carrera is great as Wayne's love interest.
Overall a very good comedy film filled with memorable moments and silly likeable characters. Well worth your time, four stars!
