You'll be quite pleased to know that Wayne's World has attained such a personal accolade on my part, and the tick is scored into the page so hard it shows up on most of the following pages. Yes, it IS that good. Why am I talking rubbish? Well, it made a decent intro now didn't it? OK, so I'm tired and my imagination isn't quite up to scratch, but I'm sure I'll pull through.
Wayne's World is a top class comedy film from 1992, starring (amongst others) the now-(in)famous Mike Myers, and the not-so-well-know Dana Carvey. And yes, I always though Dana was a girl's name, but there you go! But whereas Carvey had been in films before, this was the big break for funnyman Mike Myers. Having previously worked on America's top rated Saturday Night Live show, it wasn't until he though up a top class sketch that things really started for Myers. Most people don't know that Wayne's World started off life as one of Myers' sketches on the show, but it did, and someone evidently picked up on it's potential and it all snowballed from there. As such, Myers' co-wrote the script, so he works well with the material he knows so well.
- "We're not mental or anything, so don't be afraid"
The plot of Wayne's World revolved around the two lead characters Wayne Campbell (Myers) and Garth Algar (Carvey) and their little-known 'public access' cable show – the eponymous Wayne's World. Wayne and Garth sit in Wayne's basement on a setee, and film their show about completely random stuff, including who their 'babe' of the moment is, and the latest new inventions, like the vacuum cleaner that cuts your hair, the Suck Cut ("Turn it off! It's sucking my will to live!"). Well, one day TV exec Benjamin Oliver (Rob Lowe) is watching TV in bed with his glamorous girlfriend when she spots a show she finds really funny. Oliver spots a show ripe for exploitation, so he buys it up as soon as possible. Most of the rest of the film (well, the bits that run along to the plot anyway) revolves around Wayne and Garth battling the big network, and Wayne trying to keep Oliver's hands off his newly found girlfriend Cassandra (Tia Carrere).
- "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"
So what is so funny about Wayne's World? Well, it's quite different from a lot of comedy films you may have seen before, because it only has a loose structure. This probably derives from the fact that it was originally a series of sketches, but it works a lot better than you might have thought. It's these moments of complete randomness add a unique character to the film that is unrivalled by most of it's peers. Like when Wayne and Garth are lying on the bonnet of a car just outside the airport while planes take off. Or when T-1000 comes up to Wayne's car and asks him about the kid out of Terminator. Or the classic scene with the guys headbanging to Bohemian Rhapsody – a classic scene of our time.
As well as the randomness of the film, there's also Myers' inate ability to parody anything and everything – even the film itself. And I love a bit of self-parody. This is particularly evident in the scene's where it flashes up subtitles like 'Oscar Clip' and 'Gratuitious Sex Scene', and the whole sketch about advertising where the guys talk about how everything seems to have advertising in it these days, while advertising a number of products!
Wayne: I can't talk about it anymore, it's giving me a headache. Garth: Here, take two of these. Wayne: Ahh, Nuprin. Little, yellow, different.
There are references to all areas of pop culture in Wayne's World, bands, films, even people continually playing 'Stairway To Heaven' when testing electric guitars ("No Stairway! Denied!"). It's all these things that add to the unique charm of the whole Wayne's World experience.
- "You're amazing dude"
As well as managing to take a small sketch and turn it into a huge film, somehow Myers managed to get a load of top celebrities to cameo in the film. You'll find Alice Cooper and his band getting all philosophical with Wayne and Garth (who are grovelling at his feet), and you'll also find Meat Loaf playing the security guard 'Tiny' at the rock club.
- "Sch-wing!"
Wayne's World is one of those films that influenced a whole generation – I'm sure most people my age have fond memories of both this and 'Bill & Ted', and it's one of those films that has a habit of spawning a hundred and one catchphrases while are repeated until you want to kill the next person you hear utter the words. "Excellent" is the obvious one, although that comes more from Bill & Ted than from Wayne's World. Then you've got 'Sch-wing', 'Party on' and 'AssSphincterSaysWhat". OK, so they might sound daft now, but at the time…
- Things you probably didn't know about Wayne's World
As I was researching for this film (my memory is terrible :( ), I found out a couple of interesting things about Wayne's World that most people wouldn't realise. OK, so I only found out one thing, but it's better than nothing, isn't it?
In the scene where Wayne and Garth are lying on the car bonnet waiting for the plane to come over, the plane was actually late, and, off the top of his head Carvey (Garth) asks Wayne "Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played a girl bunny?". Myers' laughing reaction is genuine here, and the director though it was great and kept the line in. Well there you go – learn a new thing every day don't you?
- "I say puke. If you hurl and she comes back, she's yours."
Well, of course there has to be some bad things about the film. The plot is thinner than the paper it was written on for a start, and if you're not totally up on pop culture (remember – this is American pop culture too), then they'll be some jokes that might leave you wondering what the joke IS. The kind of situation where you know there's a joke, you're just not quite getting it. That can be quite irritating at times, but I suppose we're all used to it by now.
- "It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine."
That's the Wayne's World way of saying get this now! This is what I would term a classic film. It's funny, it's witty, and yet it isn't just funny in a 'wacky' way – some of the jokes are a little more complex, and this is to Myers' credit. While the plot isn't brilliant, this isn't all that noticeable, as you spend too much of your time laughing to really care anyway. All the little sketches and one-liners add up to a great film which proves the old adage "Less is more" – less structure, more comedy. Great. I guess there's only one thing left to say:
Advantages: silly and amusing - good fun and great characters Disadvantages: acting isn't the best (but who cares???)
My flatmate had bought "Wayne's World", an old favourite of mine, on dvd a while ago and it has been sitting in the living room for a few weeks now, still in its wrapper, tempting me mercilessly. Finally, on Saturday night, I could stand it no longer, and I rushed across the room and ripped it from its shiny cellophane (I asked first, of course!), desperately in need of the laugh I knew Mike Myers and co could provide for me. And it didn't disappoint.
... ...Wayne Campbell seems to have a charmed life. Okay, as he puts it himself, he has "an extensive collection of nametags and hairnets" - but he also has his own show on public access television, ably assisted by his bashful sidekick Garth. Everyone in their home town of Aurora knows who he is and thinks he is fantastic, he has just landed the girl of his dreams in beautiful and exotic rock chick Cassandra and, on top of everything else, it seems "Wayne's ...

I know this is an ancient film, but while looking through Sky Anytime, the tv on demand kind of thing on Sky+ and Sky HD boxes I saw they had this. I have watched this film loads of times years ago, and thought it was funny then, but would it be any good now - 17 years after it was made? This film is a comedy and mostly features the 2 main characters.Mike Myers plays Wayne Campbell, and Dana Carvey plays his best friend, Garth Algar. It also features ... ...The film is pretty funny and it kind of looks like a reality tv show, as Wayne and Garth keep talking to the camera. The storyline is that "Wayne's World" is a popular underground cable access TV show which is done in Wayne's basement by him, Garth and a couple of their rock friends. The show doesn't seem to last long, about three minutes, A businessman attempts, and succeeds to purchase Wayne's World to promote Noah's Arcade, a chain of game arcades ...

...is lame, dumb and obvious. Waynes World succeeds partly because it can address those prerequisite requirements but also succeed because it is witty, clever and hysterically funny. It manages to be part of the teenage film genre whilst also being a spoof of it.
The film is very simple in its format. It concerns the adventures of Wayne (played by Mike Myers) who develops a zero budget access TV channel from the basement of his house. This in turn ... ...Benjamin who seeks to exploit Waynes TV show Waynes World by transferring it to the networks.
What makes the film so successful and funny is that they are really 2 unreconstructed teenagers though both obviously older than that. Their innocent chasing of girls exposes a cute immaturity with cries of Sher-wing supposedly imitating the effect the girls had on their anatomy. It is clear though that these are thoughts expressed to themselves for themselves.

Advantages: Funny and clever Disadvantages: Tia Carrere
Just one of the many witty jokes crammed into this often underrated film. This line is used when Wayne is ordering Chinese take-out. Mike Myers plays Wayne Campbell, an ordinary guy living in Aurora. He hosts an "excellent" local TV show called Wayne's World with his best friend, Garth Algar (Dana Carvery). Wayne happens to meet Cassandra (Tia Carrere) lead singer in Crucial Taunt along the way and manages to lure her in with buckets of charm.
Wayne's ... ...and when a hot-shot TV executive (Rob Lowe) wants to buy the show Wayne is more than happy to agree. Yet, Wayne and Garth both have lingering doubts about the honesty of the TV executive. He seems to be moving in on Cassandra and changing things about the show. Things start to go wrong for Wayne as he discovers the path to success is not going to be an easy one...
Wayne and Garth were originally characters on Saturday Night Live, the show which ...

Advantages: Myers Lowe Disadvantages: A bit dated now
Wayne's World was a smash hit yoof culcha movie a while again which was Mike Myers' baby and what really brought him to the public attention in a big way. It's a charming little tale about two American dudes who set up their own independent cable TV station and make it big and it tracks Myers' attempts to get it on with the romantic interest, despite the sleazeball opposition of Rob Lowe as a fairly nasty piece of work.
That first paragraph might ... ...but it nowhere near identifies that particular qualities that Myers managed to get into his little epic - THIS FILM IS HOT and very, very funny.
The scene in the car where all the head bangers start performing the gross out Bohemian Rhapsody despite one of their number being severely the worse for wear for drink is classic comedy and Myers manages to transcend the normal crap levels of American humour. He went a bit over the top and down the toilet ...

Advantages: Wacky, goofy, silly moments, a loveable film Disadvantages: Not as good as the original
Wayne's World 2 is the sequel to the smash hit, um, "Wayne's World". Mike Myers and Dana Carvey reprise their roles as Wayne and Garth, two best friends with a penchant for heavy metal and girls.
A lot has changed since the last film, and this one begins in a more serious tone. Wayne now lives and hosts Wayne's World out of an apartment building that used to be a doll factory. He and Cassandra are still very much together, and her musical career is going from strength to strength. Oh, and Garth got pubes.
Wayne has a dream in which Jim Morrison tells him to put on a rock concert in his home town of Aurora, Illinois. This takes Wayne and Garth on a whirlwind adventure to find bands, roadies and to try and get people to actually turn up. Meanwhile Cassandra's new manager (Christopher Walken) wants to take to LA and away from Wayne ...
Advantages: very, very funny, Mike Myers is a genius Disadvantages: a bit short, more of the same maybe?
You’ll laugh again!! You’ll cry again!! You’ll hurl again!!
And so says the trailer for the movie.
Yes, it’s time for me to get back to normality and do what I do best on Ciao! (who shouted “what’s that then?”). That is to write a film review. And what better film to resume “normality” with than one of the funniest films of the 1990’s, (1993 to be exact) the daft, the stupid, the rather excellent “ Wayne’s World 2”, which was re-run on the Paramount Comedy channel a few nights ago.

Advantages: Just as good as the first film, but more polished. Disadvantages: Just how did they get the money to live in the abandoned toy factory?
Or, "She will be mine again, oh yes, she will be mine again..."
After the success of "Wayne's World" a sequel was inevitable. But how to stop it being one of those cash in movies with no substance, and a plot that beggars belief? Well, if we knew the answer to that question, the world wouldn't had to put up with pictures such as "Highlander II - The Quickening", would it? But somehow, Mike Myers, Bonny Turner and Terry Turner have come up with a piece of comic genius that might even better the original.
The plot sees Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) putting on the biggest music festival that Aurora, Illinois, has ever seen. You see, Wayne has been visited in his dreams by Jim Morrison (Michael A. Nickles) and a weird naked indian (Larry Sellers). Pretty plausible stuff really. The b-plotline regards ...

DVD Description
In this big screen spin-off of the SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE skit, two small-town cable TV hosts and best friends, Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey), spend their days and nights chasing babes (schwing!) and refusing to budge from their long-haired, head-banging lifestyle. Ably capturing a love of rock music and the goofiness and exuberance of youth, director Penelope Spheeris (THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION PARTS documentary series) brings a natural sense of fun and abandon to the film. (The car scene featuring Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" alone is a comedy classic.) WAYNE'S WORLD features appearances by Rob Lowe, Chris Farley, rockers Meat Loaf and Alice Cooper, and others.
