This DVD is part of the History Channel World War II in Colour. It is the story (shown in colour) of how the people of the USA and Britain coped on the homefront, whilst the service personnel of both countries were away fighting against the Axis countries in what must have seemed like the four corners of the globe.
The Atlantic, the Pacific, Northern Europe, Southern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the far East, Australasia, and so forth.
The first chapter of the DVD is entitled "making do."
Because the programme was created for the American audience, it begins not at the start of the homefront in Britain, but with the homefront in America, which was basically created only when Pearl Harbour was attacked by the Japanese. Suddenly, America new what it was like to face a relentless enemy who seemed implacable and incapable ...

of view. This, explained the narrator, was due to the suddenness with which America joined the war, after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour. (An old Brummie joke: "I dain't realise 'ow far off America is. After all, we shouted for help in 1939, and they only 'eard us in 1942.")

And, of course, there were the attacks on Allied day bombers from German fighter 'planes. Genuine footage of attacks by these fighters, and watching a gigantic American bomber cart wheeling out of the sky, totally out of control as the pilots seemingly fought to ...
Advantages: Nice and tasty Disadvantages: Could be more complex

They're pretty rare, having been persecuted almost to the point of extinction, and for a while were only to be found in the extreme northern highlands, but if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of one in the area around this brewery.
They look like slightly large, ordinary household tabbies, but far from being a feral cat, they're a completely different species.
CAIRNGORM BREWERY used to produce beer in the almost inaccessible village of Tomintoul, deep in the Grampian Mountains. A few years ago, however, they made their way over the arctic-like plateaux of the Cairngorms to the tourist trap that is Aviemore. From here, they brew a range of premium beers, including: Sheepshagger, Stag ...

Two features. In 'War Of The Wild Cats' an independent school mistress travels to Oklahoma where she meets a rich oilman and a cowboy, who battle over the rights of the local Indians. 'In Old California' finds Tom Craig (John Wayne) a recent arrival to Sacramento, California where he is trying to set up his pharmacy. He unfortunately finds out that the town is owned by political boss Britt Dawson (Albert Dekker), who is getting protection money from the townspeople.
