War DVD

Advantages: Interesting interviews with members of the International Brigades, excellent overview of the war.
Disadvantages: Doesn't go into too much depth for those looking to study the subject further.

...I am an A level student and for my History A level I had to write a personal investigation on any area of history. I chose the Spanish Civil War mainly because I knew very little about it. I of course went and bought lots of books on the subject but also decided to buy this DVD, just to give me an overview of the war. It gives an excellent overview of the causes of the war, why the Nationalists won so convicingly, the way in which Franco built up a 'cult of personality' and also goes over the military side very well. Basically, if you (like I did) want to find out more about this forgotten war then I would certainly recommend this DVD as a good starting point.... Read review

Advantages: Funny and good for on the go!
Disadvantages: Bonus feature isn't that good

...The Simpsons Bartwars is an exellent simpsons set it includes some of the best episodes of the simpsons series. Here is my detailed guide to the DVD. Mayored to the mob: Homer becomes the mayors bodygaurd after saving him from angry nerds. The mayor becomes worried after standing up to Fat Tony and his gang that he is in danger. Dog Of Death: Homer becomes obsesed when he finds out the lottery jackpot is up to $130,000,000. After loosing the simpsons find their dog is very ill and needs an operation. To Pay for the dogs operation the family all have to make some sacrifices. The secret war of lisa simpson: After smashing all of springfields windows bart is sent to military school and lisa ends up enrolling too. Will the other cadets drive her out watch to find out. Marge be not Proud: Bart is caught shoplifting and marge feels she... Read review

Advantages: Innovative, based on a true story, good acting

...I found this quite chilling that it is actually based on a true story, Nicholas Cage's acting is again up to scratch. The film is very innovative as i haven't seen anything like this before. This film is definitely a thriller and i wouldn't rate it as a comedy. There are bits of humour but the storyline is quite serious. The special effects are good to see and the dvd contains a good array of bonus features, It has interviews with the cast and crew including Cage. Deleted scenes which is a nice touch. plus a directors commentary and the making of the film, i always find this particularly useful after watching a film to point out things i may have missed first time over. Nicholas Cage is perhaps my favourite actor and his performance in this film only echoes my opinion.... Read review

Advantages: a good drama that will pass an evening

...This program is the fourth release in the "war prison camp series." It is 1942, and we will journey behind the bars of a Japanese WWII jungle prison. The film is nothing different from any other war film but well worth having if your into your dvd collection. If you have seen the like of harts war then this could be the film for you, following the journey of a prisnor of war you are privy to the emotional rollercoaster that he goes through, from hate, to compassion to friendship. It is a film that explores the human psychi under the pressure of war and gives an insight to the workings of his mind. Worth a watch regardless of whether your after a classic or not... Read review

Advantages: Brings Back Star Wars
Disadvantages: Not as good as o

...When i ordered this dvd i wasnt sure what to expect, being a family guy and star wars fan i thought the two together would mix well. Upon watching this i found it rather funny, although not as good as the real star wars it added the qualities that we love in family guy to a very popular film. Id love to see the other star wars films made into a family gut episode as i believe they would improve the Star Wars fanbase. I hope that Star Wars doesnt start to die out and Family Guy has not only inproved the fanbase but keeps the Story alive for years to come. I would recommend this dvd for anyone who likes Star Wars, Family Guy or even anyone who likes cartoon comedy.... Read review
