Black Hawk Down

Advantages: Excellent Film
Disadvantages: Not many

...article was a film called Black Hawk Down, which I had heard of but never, had the opportunity to watch and had no clue about, later on when in discussion on the article, somebody brought the film up and highly recommended it. Buying the Film I bought the film in Blockbuster when I was returning a rental; it cost £4 which I thought was highly reasonable for a DVD, especially one which was recommended and according to the front of the DVD won two ...
...called The Battle of The Black Sea took place. 19 US soldiers lost their lives in the battle and the films depicts the story of some of the characters involved in the real life mission, including those who died or had significant injuries and those who came through as heroes. Action-packed, highly charged war movie.

Advantages: Action-packed war movie.
Disadvantages: Limited storyline.

When John Woo has a go at directing a film set during the second world war you can bet it will be packed with action from start to finish, and low and behold this film has exactly that. The story follows the efforts of marines who's mission it is to protect Navjo Indians recruited into the war to use military code based on the Navajo language. The marines protect the code by protecting the man and the story therefore allows for selfless feats of ...
...Nicolas Cage. Don't expect any anti-war messages here but do expect to be thrilled by some great battle scenes with slow motion sequences that have become a trademark in John Woo movies. The story is not particularly strong nor do I expect it was intended to be, but the action makes up for any shortcomings in the plot. The action is very well choreographed and exciting and fans of action films will find this film very enjoyable. When I watched the ...

The Pure Warrior

Advantages: Historically correct, absorbing and entertaining
Disadvantages: Long and dated in places

General Patton believed his destiny was to lead a great army into combat and come out the other end victorious. If he did not succeed he wanted to lie dead among his combat soldiers. So why during the most important and intense time in the European war against the Nazis did George S Patton feel the need to say "The whole world is at war and I'm the only one left out of it" The critically acclaimed film 'Patton' made in 1970 goes a long way to explain ...
...would have doubted it, although Patton is perhaps the only man in the whole theatre of the Second World War which a film of almost two and a half hours long can be justified. The film begins with Patton (George C. Scott) standing on a podium in front of the US flag addressing his troops before battle; the famous speech which in typical Pattonesque style is littered with profanities and vulgar examples of how to beat the Germans. In the context of ...

"We have a Black Hawk down, we have...".

In an attempt to rescue the first Black Hawk a second chopper tries to go down and, while dispersing a group of Rangers and Delta Force units, gets shot at. This Black Hawk also crashes. "All our ignorance brings us closer to death."

Advantages: Superb action
Disadvantages: Politically and emotionally empty

Black Hawk Down (2001) It’s 1993, Somalia, a large east African country. Delta Squad, one of America’s elite army ranger units, is preparing for a smash and grab mission to capture two high ranking enemy officials. To do so they must enter the most hostile district in the capital, Mogadishu. Over 100 troops enter the city by via armoured vehicle and black hawk helicopters. All is going to plan until a soldier is wounded and their progress slowed. ...
...the foot soldiers. When one Black Hawk is shot down they must move to help any survivors further complicating the operation. It quickly becomes clear that they will be stuck in these streets a lot longer than the planned half an hour. Ridley Scott (Bladerunner, Gladiator) directs the action – and there is an awful lot of it. For action junkies this is a pure shot of adrenalin, but others may find it too quick and to follow in the initial scenes of ...
