...of this movie but never the whole film, I decided to buy it on DVD. I bought it as part of a 'Great Films Starring Steve McQueen' box set. What an investment! Produced in 1963, this DVD is based on a true story of a group of Allied P.O.W's who planned an escape from an 'escape proof' camp. ...The first half of the film focuses on various escape attempts made by the POWs, as well of the planning of the escape and digging the tunnels, Tom, Dick, and Harry. This half of the film is quite comedic, and the characters work well together. The second half of the film follows the escape of the prisoners, and follows their various journeys as they try and get back to Britain safely. A Classic War Film!

Advantages: Really interesting, based on a true story, exciting, good acting
Disadvantages: None

...Only Review Watching the Great Escape on Sky Anytime last night I thought I had to review it. This movie is based on a book by Paul Brickhill who actually was in the camp in March 1944! The film is therefore based on true events but there are some inaccuracies so you should not believe everything that happens in the film! The film was made in 1963 but is still on every Christmas! You see the prisoners of war in the camp and follow their escape plan. They want to be as much nuisance to the Germans as possible wasting their time, money and men! Come on then, whistle along to the tune..

Advantages: Still the best war film ever with loads of extras
Disadvantages: Maybe not suitable for Scots, Welsh + Irish

One of the best films ever, must buy!

Advantages: Great story, amazing acting, superb film

Ever since seeing this film i have been dying to own this film and its finally on dvd. A modern classic of a film and such a typical Tarintino film. From the opening scene this movie has you engrossed and the two and a half hours it lasts for fly past. The acting is superb from some little known actors and having only one big name like Brad Pitt sets it off brilliantly. Saints and Soldiers is Ryan Little's war film based around the Malmedy Massacre of World War 2 in 1944 during The Battle of the Bulge.
