Dam Busters
Advantages: great film, based on a true story, low flying sequences Disadvantages: some special effects
...produce war material to fight the Germans. But Barnes Wallis (Michael Redgrave), a British scientist, has an idea to shorten the war. He believes that if a bomb (that has not been developed yet) is released from an aircraft doing a certain speed from a certain height then that bomb will bounce on the surface of the water hitting the wall of a Dam, where it will sink to a predetermined depth and then explode using the force of the water to breach ... ...and therefore severely damaging the German war effort.
This could be a crazy scientist's pipe dream, but this movie is in fact the true story of how the bouncing bomb was conceived and developed culminating in the execution of Operation Chastise which was the mission to destroy the Möhne, Sorpe and the Eder Dam's in an attempt to cripple Germany's ability to make war. The reality was that although two of the Dams were breached, output was back to ...

A hidden gem of the war film world
Advantages: Plot, acting and keeps you watching Disadvantages: Confusing if you're not up on war history
Force 10 From Navarone is based on the book of the same name by author Alistair MacLean as is the sequel to The Guns of Navarone, the immensely popular film starring Gregory Peck and David Niven. Force 10 was released in 1978, and features some famous names and a powerful script cast onto the screen. The film didn't do as well as it should have, but is still a quality film.
Following the successful destruction of the guns of Navarone, survivors ... ...a spy named Nicolai, who they had come across briefly in their previous mission. They are the key to the mission, as they are perhaps the only ones who can identify him. Older than they were in the first mission, Nicolai has grown from a boy to a man, and is now believed to be masterminding a sabotage operation under the guise of allied lieutenant Lescovar (Franco Nero). The experienced soldiers are joined by a selection of American soldiers, led ...

Inglorious Tarantino Nonesense
Advantages: Tarantino making grown up films Disadvantages: Still not back to his best
If ever a director has suffered a steep decline from the very summit of Hollywood its Quentin Tarantino. How did we get from Pulp Fiction to Death Proof?? He didn't even have time to plant his flag pole he slid down the other side that fast. What on Earth was that self parody Kill Bill nonsense all about! The geeky ex video store worker who dreamed of becoming an actor but burdened with a face for radio (even Morse code) astounded the independent ... ...uber cool Reservoir Dogs and became the darling of the European film circuit with Pulp Fiction. But since then I have struggled with nearly everything he's done, dare I say it I'm almost bored with the film genius of the reported owner of a 151 I.Q, his Muppet Show yapping mouth going on about the nuance of film somewhat irritating now. With Inglorious Basterds I think he too knows his best days may have passed and this is an attempt to woo back ...

One of the best films ever, must buy!
Advantages: Great story, amazing acting, superb film Disadvantages: None
Ever since seeing this film i have been dying to own this film and its finally on dvd. A modern classic of a film and such a typical Tarintino film. From the opening scene this movie has you engrossed and the two and a half hours it lasts for fly past. The acting is superb from some little known actors and having only one big name like Brad Pitt sets it off brilliantly. Very rarely do you see a somewhat pro jewish war film, most are just protraying ...

A Classic War Film!
Advantages: Really interesting, based on a true story, exciting, good acting Disadvantages: None
...Only Review Watching the Great Escape on Sky Anytime last night I thought I had to review it. This movie is based on a book by Paul Brickhill who actually was in the camp in March 1944! The film is therefore based on true events but there are some inaccuracies so you should not believe everything that happens in the film! The film was made in 1963 but is still on every Christmas! The Great Escape is set in World War 2 and begins with the P.O.W ... ...high security. The idea is to have "all the rotten eggs in one basket" so they can all be kept inside this one impossible to escape camp! You see the prisoners of war in the camp and follow their escape plan. They want to be as much nuisance to the Germans as possible wasting their time, money and men! There plan is to get over 250 men out of the camp out of tunnels.
