As a kid loved watching the WW2 flicks. ''Where Eagles Dare'', ''Guns of Navaronne'',''The Great Escape'',''The Dirty Dozen'', ''Bridge on the River Kwai'' and ''Saving Private Ryan'' are some of my perennial favourites. The Battle Of Britain is an absolute wartime classic. Even to this day, it acting, music, special effects and story are unbeaten. The film starts in France. The British are retreating to Dunkirk and a RAF tempory base is evacuated as the German offensive continues. Meanwhile, Sir Hugh Dowding (head of the RAF) advices Churchill that no more RAF forces should be sent to France as it would weaken the home defenses. With Germany in control of France ...

The story follows Sir Hugh Dowding and his struggle to maintain the RAF, the Blitz and several RAF personal who are bearing the brunt of the attacks of the Luftwaffe. I saw this film the day it came out at the cinema mainly because i am a big Tom Hanks fan, i am interested in war stories and i admire Steven Spielberg's film making abilities. As this film ended i left the cinema stunned and complete with a whole new attitude and respect towards those who fought and died for their country during in this conflict. The special effects are astonishing and this brings a whole new level of realism and believeability ...
...and little effects like spraying blood onto the camera lense give us as the audience, a much more active feeling when viewing which adds to the overal intensity of this picture. Noticable performances from Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore and a young Vin Disel adds to realism.
