Randall was a man of few words, and, unlike most bounty hunters, he carried neither a shotgun nor a rifle but rather an 1892 Winchester lever action pistol, which he wore on his belt and fondly called his Mare's leg. Advantages: Hot women, martial arts, Kevin Nash doing comedy! Disadvantages: None, apart from my mortal enemy producing it.
Shou even pops up from PWSA's Mortal Kombat to join in the fighting fun.
As with most films based on computer games, the music is taken from the game (albeit changed slightly), so you get the feeling of actually being in control of the fights, as if you were playing the game on your PlayStation2.
I really would recommmend this movie, but please download it or rent it, as I don't want Paul WS Anderson getting any ideas that he is a good director/producer, as he might make more films.

DOA: Dead or Alive is based on the very successful series of video games by the same title. As I have never played these games they have no influence of my review of the film.
The film tells the tale of the best martial artists in the world who take part in a "winner takes all" competition.
Dead or Alive is definitely aimed at a male audience and this is evident by the leading cast. The main trio are Devon Aoki, Holly Valance and Jaime Pressly who kick ass in their tight fitting clothing. Yep, definitely one for the guys.
Eye candy aside, which is very difficult in this film, there is still some other positives left to cover - mainly, the fight scenes. I was pleasantly surprised that they are actually brilliantly choreographed. I expected this film to be very blasé about the fight scenes and rather just focus on exposing as ...
"...A spellbinding thriller....One that fills you with an uneasy mixture of excitement and dread..." (Los Angeles Times, p.C6, 16/01/1987)

DVD Description
In this modern update of the classic Steve McQueen western television series, Hauer plays Nick Randall, a former CIA man turned bounty hunter who becomes the bait in an FBI-CIA conspiracy and finds himself pursued by an international terrorist who pushes him to the limit of survival. It seems that Nick and the terrorist, Malak Al Rahim, are linked by the past, and the two embark on a deadly cat-and-mouse game that only one man can win. Of note, Hauer's character is mentioned as being the great-grandson of McQueen's character in the original series.
