Tame Tame West

Advantages: Some good fight choreography
Disadvantages: Acting and script leave a lot to be desired, special effects are tired

In 1999, a good combination of cast and crew got together under the directing prowess of Barry Sonnenfeld to create what was possibility the most disappointing film of the year. Wild Wild West had great potential to be an awesome film. So, where did it go wrong? The Plot Captain Jim West and US Marshall Artemus Gordon are two of the most skilled gunslingers and trackers in the US. Trained on opposite sides of the law enforcement spectrum, they must team together in order to rescue the President from the clutches of an evil madman, who also happens to be an inventor with a thousand different toys to throw at the two heroes as they assail him in order to succeed in their mission. The Cast and Performances Will Smith heads what should have bee a good cast in this Western with a difference. He plays Jim West, who upholds the law ...

Move Over Chicago, West Side Story is Now On DVD

Advantages: The DVD looks and sounds terrific...every element falls into place beautifully...
Disadvantages: those who hate Romeo & Juliet probably wont bother to give it a chance...

When I was growing up, my parents had two great musicals on the same tape---WEST SIDE STORY and GREASE. My mother knew I would enjoy GREASE more than WEST SIDE STORY and when I tried to watch it, I wasn't really impressed with it, and all I remembered from it was it starting with an aerial shot of Manhattan. I wasn't until this year that I saw WEST SIDE STORY in all its glory, after I was recommended to buy the DVD by a very good friend. Some of my favorite musicals have been MY FAIR LADY, 1776, and the SOUTH PARK movie (weird collection, I know), but I was absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer power and energy of WEST SIDE STORY. And now I'm glad to be writing a review on it, as I tell you about the film---and the experiance I had while watching it. First of all, I know everyone out there doesn't like musicals, but this is ...

A walk on the West Side

Advantages: Fantastic dance scenes.
Disadvantages: Some of the music

~~ WEST SIDE STORY ~~ I would like to say this is a modern day Romeo and Juliet and I suppose it is, if you think back to when Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet, but in fact the film is now 44 years old and it was nominated for 11 Oscars which it won 10 of. West Side Story (Stage show), premiered at the Rivoli Theatre in New York in 1957, where it had a very successful run of 77 weeks. After its successful time on the stage, the movie went into production in August 1960, the full cast having to complete 2 months of gruelling rehearsals prior to production. So look out next year as it will be the Golden Anniversary of West Side Story and I should imagine they will re-release a special edition to celebrate it. Originally the movie version was only going to take 3 weeks to make, but instead it took months and Premiered in ...
