We have had this DVD sitting in the 'to watch' pile now since Christmas so I decided to take advantage of having the TV to myself and sit and watch it.
The film starts off by us meeting a robot who collects and condenses rubbish on planet Earth called Wall E. He is alone as all the other robots have rusted and stopped working. We can see that the Earth is absolutely covered in rubbish and there are no people living here now. Wall E has a friend is the form of a bug who keeps him company.
Wall E spends his day looking for useful items which he takes back to his home and stores. One day when he was working as usual a space ship comes to Earth and leaves another robot, called Eve. She is searching for any proof that life can once again exist on Earth. Wall E tries to befriend Eve but she is more concerned about completing her mission.
Wall E takes Eve back to his home and here he gives her a plant which she is delighted with and puts inside her case and then she starts flashing with a green plant sign and shuts down. Wall E protects Eve and takes here around with him until one day the space ship comes back to collect her.
Wall E manages to hold onto the ship and travels with it to a giant space ship where he discovers the people are living.
Eve tries to deliver the plant to the captain of the ship but some of the other robots have a different idea. Will the Captain, Wall E and Eve be able to get the ship back to Earth so the people can once again live here or will the robots win and the people be destined to spend the rest of their days in space?
I was very excited about watching this film as it had been shown to be very good and had lots of press and hype around it. I will say that I feel all the hype was very over rated. The film is very good and it does have a fun and good story line. The animation is extremely good and detailed and all of the characters were very believable.
For me personally I like to watch films which do have more talking in than this one did. I think for the majority of the first half all we heard the robots say was 'Wall E' and 'Eve'. The fact that the animation was so good did slightly help with the lack of talking. When the robots get to the space ship it is here that the talking starts but again there really isn't that much of it.
The people were portrayed as very fat and for some reason were lacking something, they really did look animated and I have to say that I have seen better animated humans in other cartoons. The captain was a good character and he did provide a few laugh.
My 2 eldest have been waiting to see this film as well and they do have some of the Wall E toys so they were sat all excited about the film but my 4 year old soon lost interest at the beginning as there was no talking and a little later on my 6 year old also lost interest and just decided to play with his Wall E toys instead. I did ask they what they both thought and all they would say was the film was 'OK'.
I did fall in love with the cleaning robot who follows Wall E around and I do think that one of these should be made for real and be given away free to mothers with messy children as it thing would be so overworked in my house!
The DVD which we have is packed with bonus material which includes:-
Burn E - Hilarious All-New Animated Short Presto - Amazing Animated Theatrical Short Film Deleted Scenes Animation Sound Design Building Worlds from the sound up Audio Commentary with Director Andrew Stanton The Pixar Story by Leslie Iwerks An Award winning filmmaker tells the Riveting story of the Innovative Company that revolutionised Hollywood Additional deleted Scenes Wall E Treasures and trinkets BnL Shorts - An amusing Peek into the inner workings of the Bug N Large Corporation Lots of Bots, Storybook - The imaginative storybook comes to life loaded with fun games Extensive making of Featurettes And More!
I have the say that the film was a let down so we did not take the time or trouble to watch these additional features.
The film was created by Disney Pixar and released in 2008. The film has a running time of 95 minutes which is a good length but would have been better with more talking. The film has been given a U certificate which means that it is suitable for all ages which I do have to agree with.
This film is now available for around about the £10 price. If you would like any further information on this film or any other Disney one then please visit www.disneydvds.co.uk
I am on the fence as whether to recommend this film or not but I will say yes, only if you can tolerate the majority of the first half with no talking.

I'm sorry for the H, but for this to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in the same detail as your review of the film, not just a list of them.

I agree, this was a strange cartoon movie , and I didn't like that there was next to no talking in it

I think some of the Disney films should return to the classics, like Lion King, Sleeping Beauty and such, they were the good films, where the new ones just cant compete.
