It’s recommended to those who likes not only to see but to think too.

of humour. Essentially, a criminal profiler, Grace also acts as the teams own shrink, regularly advising and helping with their personal problems.
Played by the incredible Sue Johnston (Brookside/The Royle Family), it is evident that this actress has so much more to give than mere half hour slots of soap or comedy.

Rather than review each individual episode, I feel that it would be more productive to review the five storylines which make up this DVD set.
PILOT - WAKING THE DEAD
With the formation of the cold case unit, D.Sup Boyd has the opportunity to go back 5 years, to the kidnap and murder of a young school girl, and try to catch the killer who had evaded him. The re-opening of the case finds its way into the media, and the urges of the killer are reawakened.

~~~~~~ CAST ~~~~~~
I will start with the cast, as they are the building blocks to any half decent programme, there are a group of five "regular" actors featured in every episode, these are -
TREVOR EVE - who plays Ds Peter Boyd, who was once a no nonsense copper who was allocated the resources of a new department and a small group of staff specifically to solve the unsolvable. He has a year to prove his departments worth.
Trevor Eve's character is funny, sharp, intelligent and at all times there is an underlying current of sadness, which the reason for this becomes apparent a little further on in the series. He always also gets far too attached to every case, only being dragged back from the edge by his side kick and friend Grace Foley.
SUE JOHNSTONE ...
Advantages: value for money, superb acting, well written scripts Disadvantages: no DVD extras
INTRODUCTION
'Waking The Dead' has become somewhat of an institution in my household. When it first aired on the BBC in 2000 I had little/no interest in seeing yet another television police detective show. Having sat through hour after hour of Prime Suspect, Dalziel and Pascoe and the like I simply wasn't that interested. I do not think I am alone in feeling swamped by the vast number of police detective shows around. However, as I started to watch 'Waking the Dead' all those years ago I quickly began to realise this show was significantly different to all the others. Indeed, I enjoyed the series so much that when I saw them coming out on DVD I began to snap them up. My most recent purchase has been series four, which I managed to get from Zavvi for £12.00. Admittedly Zavvi were offering 20% off all DVD box sets, which did make ...
DVD Description
Fielding Pierce (Billy Crudup) is a promising young congressional candidate who becomes obsessed with the idea that his dead lover, Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), is still alive. Because of her involvement with a group called Sanctuary that harbours Chilean dissidents, Sarah is presumably killed in a car bombing. However, Fielding is never completely convinced that she's truly gone and years later begins to see and hear her presence. Filled with revealing flashbacks, the film follows the deeply involved romance of the ambitious Fielding and the idealistic Sarah during the 1970s while also portraying Fielding's struggle to win his congressional bid in the 1980s. As his political campaign progresses, so does his belief that Sarah is still alive, leading him to question his sanity and begin a desperate search to find her. WAKING THE DEAD is an eerily atmospheric drama, awash in chilling shades of black, white, and grey. Director Keith Gordon's use of flashback and non-linear storytelling effectively conveys the deep power of memory and love that transcends traditional conceptions of time. Alternating between the past and the present, Gordon's adaptation of the novel by Scott Spencer is a dreamy, mysterious affair that features supremely convincing lead performances by Crudup and Connelly as well as solid supporting turns by Janet McTeer and Hal Holbrook.
