albums. Even though it features 22 different female voices, the album boasts a rare continuity because Babyface wrote or co-wrote 15 of the songs and produced all 16. Moreover, the gifted R&B artist used every song to explore the film's theme of women trying to balance self-respect and romantic desire. Not only has Babyface (née Kenny Edmonds) created a fascinating song suite, he has produced one of the best middle-of-the-road-pop, adult-contemporary albums of the decade. Mary J. Blige stakes out a claim as the new diva on the block with an astonishing performance on "Not Gon' Cry". Babyface's music and lyrics suggest a woman barely holding back a swelling flood of anger and heartache, and Blige's brilliant vocal captures both the agitation and the restraint. --Geoffrey Himes

Bernadine is the woman who thinks she already has the perfect life, until her husband leaves her to being a new life with another woman. Her friends Robin and Savannah are strong and successful women who can't seem to find decent and unmarried men, while Gloria is a divorcee attempting to get her groove back with her handsome new neighbour. This movie is open and honest, showing how even four beautiful women can struggle to find love. The beauty of the women and their settings don't disguise the ugliness of some of their situations. The cast work and look well together, both men and women. Watch out for Wesley Snipes in one of the most touching scenes in the film. Without giving away the ending, I would say that a good aspect of this movie is that a typical and unbelievable fairy tale ending doesn't come about - yet you're filled with a warm feeling by the end. Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone - especially anybody who has ever fallen for the wrong person, had to make a fresh start or has ever had a good friend.
As Christmas comes round and us single women are staring out the window wondering where the love of our lives are... (remember, there's more than one of us that stares out he window wondering where our soul partners are I think we've all been there!)
I must say I was quite impressed with Whitney's acting, as well as Angela Basset, who plays the part of a newly seprated/divorced single mother with children.
An old friend of mine watched this movie ...

The adaptation of Terry McMillan's best-selling novel, about four middle-class, African-American friends, and their continuing efforts to find Mr. Right. The story begins with Bernadine, whose husband John calmly announces that he's leaving her -- for a white woman. Furthermore, the wealthy John has been manipulating his finances, and leaves Bernadine virtually broke. But Bernie gets her revenge, in a rather "fiery" fashion. Then there's Savannah, who re-ignites a relationship with her ex-boyfriend, who's married with children. Meanwhile, dim Robin dates hordes of Mr. Wrongs before going back to Russell, who's also married. Will either come to her senses
