Grow old gracefully? Not these two.
Diana Trent (Stephanie Cole) is not quite the typical 'little old dear' in fact anyone who dares call her old is likely to find her walking stick has come into swift contact with their leg. She resents growing old and everything that go along with it.
Tom Ballard (Graham Crowden) is almost the complete opposite, or so it seams. He's seen by most as being a bit daft. Does he do it ... ...to his awful family? Diana isn't fooled quite that easily and at times plays along with it, well anything to get up the noses of those in authority.
Diana, along with her sidekick Tom will stop at nothing to upset Harvey, the yuppie manager of their retirement home - Known as 'the idiot Bains' (Daniel Hill). Bains will stop at nothing in his attempts to get rid of the pair, unfortunately for him he hasn't got the brains to out wit ... more
Grow old gracefully? Not these two.
Diana Trent (Stephanie Cole) is not quite the typical 'little old dear' in fact anyone who dares call her old is likely to find her walking stick has come into swift contact with their leg. She resents growing old and everything that go along with it.
Tom Ballard (Graham Crowden) is almost the complete opposite, or so it seams. He's seen by most as being a bit daft. Does he do it for attention or just as a way of avoiding talking to his awful family? Diana isn't fooled quite that easily and at times plays along with it, well anything to get up the noses of those in authority.
Diana, along with her sidekick Tom will stop at nothing to upset Harvey, the yuppie manager of their retirement home - Known as 'the idiot Bains' (Daniel Hill). Bains will stop at nothing in his attempts to get rid of the pair, unfortunately for him he hasn't got the brains to out wit them.
Harvey Bains is aided by the Matron, Jane, who is a bit of a wet fish but again is a bit brainless and is prone to bouts of wanting to be a nun. In-between attempts to drag Harvey down the Aisle that is. Unfortunately for Jane this is all one sided, Harvey isn't interested in her but she never gets the message.
The first series starts with Tom arriving at Bayview, being dumped there by his boring son and revolting pill popping, gin swigging daughter-in-law. There he meets Diana who is unpleasant to almost everyone. However, to everyone's surprise Tom and her become quite good friends. Tom finds the food is revolting, but manages to get it changed after telling Bains what would happen if it didn't.
Whilst Tom and Diana enjoys winding Jane up over almost everything they do seam to quite like Jane. When Harvey tries to replace Jane (eps 5) how can Tom and Diana prevent it from happening. Perhaps Tom, in his new role of 'resident's committee chairman' can turn the tables on Harvey once again.
When Tom falls ill and is rushed to hospital he comes out very depressed. The doctor is hoping Diana is a nice, cheerful and helpful person to assist Tom and help him to get better. Diana nice? That'll be the day. (eps 3)
During the series Harvey (known to all as 'the idiot Bains') tries to have the pair arrested for borrowing Diana's niece's sports car (eps 2), evict Diana for not declaring a medical condition when she moved there (eps 4) and finally tries to have them certified as insane. (eps 6)Unfortunately for Harvey ,Tom and Diana are always at least one step ahead and manage to turn the tables on him every time.
Probably the best episode in this series is where Tom and Diana manage to force a particularly condescending councillor to have to withdraw from the election, upsetting Harvey Bains and Tom's family is a bonus. (eps 7)
This isn't the best series as it got better as it went along.
The first in the award winning British Comedy TV series featuring two elderly residents at the 'Bay view Retirement Village' who refuse to succumb to old age and the lifestyle that expectedly goes with it.
