What can I really say about this film?? Well, It's not a memorable one! I rented this on dvd and barely remember what the point or purpose of this film was. Because I rented it and was very disapointed with it, I didn't even view the extras or any other features on this disc! Bad I know if I am going to write a review about it. However no matter how great the extras may have been (which I have no clue about). It still doesn't make up for the mundane storyline.
I rented this as it has Ryan Reynolds in. Ryan is fantastically funny and animated in his comedy films and this one is no exception. The film had some funny moments in provided by Ryan Reynolds. It was just that the story was very weak.
When I put the film on, I sat watching and waiting (coincidence to the films title) for it to start! At the end of the film I thought, is that it??! What happened with the film, surely it can't be over yet? As I felt it hadn't even begun.
Let me tell you a bit about the characters and the story:
Written
and Directed by: Rob McKittrick The film was made: 2005 Waiting was released on dvd: 7th february 2006 Rated: 15 (about right for this film as there is some strong language and sexual reference) Film duration: 94 mins
Cast; Ryan Reynolds - Monty Anna Faris - Serena Justin Long - Dean David Koechner - Dan Luis Guzman - Raddimus Chi McBride - Bishop John Francis Daley - Mitch Kaitlin Douleday - Amy Rob Benedict - Calvin Alanna Ubach - Naomi Max Kasch - T-Dog Andy Milonakis - Nick
Ok, Here we go!
Story based in a restaurant sees it's staff having to put up with it's difficult customers and how they survive through this on a daily basis. The answer is revenge! All Awkward and rude customers get their well deserved comeuppance. In a restaurant, I am sure you can imagine. Also trying to make their work place a fun one, a type of initiation is always introduced to the new staff. There is a grosse 5 second rule to the kitchen resturant.
Monty is the main character in this film, he is a womaniser with a careless attitude to his work. Although he can seem very charming to his aggressive complaining customers, he manages to get the best of them. He works along-side his ex-girlfriend Serena (Anna Faris), who is always putting monty down by refering to their time when they were dating. Serena is aggressive towards Monty and the pair bicker non stop! Serena is a bit of a bitch. Their Manager Dan (David Koechner) is always watching with a close eye. He longs to be popular with the staff but never gets invited to their parties. Manager Dan offers promotion to Dean (Justin Long), Who not long joined the team. Dean is a student and doesn't want to spend his life working in the food business. He seeks a higher career in life. Dean is slightly nervous as he is new to the business and "The Game", he is a very quiet individual not sure if he fits in.
The Restaurant cook Raddimus ( Luis Guzman) is obsessed with sex, he and his girlfriend are always at it. Just nipping out for a quicky in his car. He has also invented "The game"! Ways in which the male staff try not to look at each other's genitals if trousers dropped on purpose. The purpose of the game is to catch someone out, if you drop your pants and they look they must follow a forfit, undergo a punishment of sort. It's hard to explain as I can barely recall the film itself! It does have it's funny moments, I can say that. With dopped up busboys and the hillarious moments from Ryan Reynolds.
It is just basically a film about the restaurant and its day to day trials. How the staff deal with those trials of the job. Then the film just ends with not much really happening!
I did expect more I have to say. There were some good moments of comedy, just perhaps not enough!
The soundtrack was ok. Not much more to say sorry.
The characters however were good and performances by them I enjoyed!
It didn't really have many special effects that I can think of!
This is the only film made by Rob McKittrick so I can't really compare it! I think it's a good job for his first film though.
I wouldn't buy the film after seeing it, even though I am a fan of Ryan Reynolds! I wouldn't reccomend to go out and buy it, however, for a few laughs I would say hire it out to see what you think!
little facts: The writter and Director Rob McKittrick was originally a waiter in 1997 when he wrote "waiting".
