WWE Wrestlemania 22 – 3 Disc Collector’s Edition Digipack.
On Sunday 2nd April 2006, World Wrestling Entertainment presented WWE Wrestlemania 22. An event that sounded beforehand to be one of the worst Wrestlemania events ever. Thankfully, that was not the case. I’m not saying that it’s perfect, but it was quite good and could have been a lot worse.
Disc One Included :
The first main event put World Champion Kurt Angle defending against Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio in a triple threat match. The match was quite rushed since it lasted just under 10 minutes, was a very entertaining ten minutes. The match concluded with Rey Mysterio pinning Randy Orton to win the title. Mysterio had dedicated the match to his best friend, the late Eddie Guerrero.
The second main event had WWE Champion John Cena defending against Triple H. Everyone, including me, expected HHH to emerge the new champion. That was not the case as John Cena had Triple H tap out to the STFU to retain the title. The classic thing about this match was that Cena, who was meant to be the good guy, was booed out of the building. All the fans were behind HHH on this night. I don’t know why WWE don’t take the hint. If their top good guy John Cena is geeting booed and their top bad guy Triple H is being cheered then I say there is something seriously wrong. Anyway moving on.
The World Tag Team Championship Match between Champions Kane & Big Show defending against Carlito & Chris Masters was nothing special. Kane and Show won the match to retain the titles.
The Money In The Bank Ladder Match at Wrestlemania 22 was nowhere near as good as the previous year. With Ric Flair, Finlay, RVD, Matt Hardy, Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley competing for a title match. I think this match was quite poor, with Rob Van Dam predictably winning.
Next John Bradshaw Layfield defended his WWE United States Title against Chris Benoit. This match was okay but not great. In the end Benoit won the match and the title. Funny how just two short years before, both JBL and Benoit were World Champions and now they were relegated to fighting mid-card for the US belt.
In one of the better matches on the card, Mick Foley faced Edge in a Hard Core match. This was a great contest containing all sorts of weapons being used such as, steel chairs, thumb tacks, a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire and burning tables. Edge, after a grueling 20 minutes of battle, came out on top as the winner after outside interference from Lita.
Up next Booker T and Sharmell faved off against The Boogeyman in a worthless but comical handicap match. Obviously Boogeyman won this match.
Then we came to the WWE Women’s Championship Match between Champion Trish Stratus and Mickie James. James had been stalking Trish for weeks before the event, even trying to passionately kiss the champ. This was Trish’s attempt at revenge. However it backfired and Mickie James won the match and the title.
The next match was the Casket Match between The Undertaker and Mark Henry. This was a really boring match due to the opponent that The Undertaker had. Mark Henry was eventually stuufed into the casket taking the Undertaker’s Wrestlemania win record to 14-0.
Then we came to the best match on the card. The Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels against Vince McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match. McMahon had been making HBK’s life hell for the previous 6 months all because Michaels told Vince that it was time to forget about the Bret Hart Screw Job and move on. Michaels dominated this match, dishing out a savage beating on both Vince and Shane Mcmahon, who had tried to interfere on his father’s behalf. After some Sweet Chin Music, elbowing Vince through a table from the top of a ladder and then some more sweet chin music, Michaels was victorious.
An overall enjoyable event with a few flaws. Worth the money paid for the no holds barred match, the hardcore match and all the extras included, which I will tell you about now.
Disc Two Includes :
The complete WWE Saturday Nights Main Event show which was held on 18th March 2006. In February 2006, WWE announced that Saturday Nights Main Event would return after a 14 year hiatus. The event featured :
Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio vs John Cena and Triple H in a 2 on 3 Handicap Match.
The Cutting Edge interview with Edge’s guest Mick Foley.
A beer drinking contest between Stone Cold Steve Austin and John Bradshaw Layfield.
Trish Stratus and Mickie James vs Victoria and Candace Michelle.
The Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels vs Shane McMahon in a Street Fight.
An excellent event.
Disc Three Includes :
The entire WWE Hall Of Fame 2006. A three hour event held the night before Wrestlemania 22. Inducted into the Hall of Fame were The Black Jacks, Verne Gagne, William Perry, Sensational Sherri, Tony Atlas, Mean Gene Okerlund, Eddie Guerrero and Bret Hitman Hart.
This was Bret Hart’s first WWE television appearance since the famous 1997 Survivor Series Screw Job.
The Hall Of Fame also included special appearances from Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan.
The Wrestlemania 22 3 Disc Collectors Edition Digipack contains well over 5 hours of extras and I would recommend it to everyone.
It is available from www.silvervision.co.uk for 17.99. That also includes free home delivery.
Advantages: Entire Hall of Fame Ceremony and Saturday Night's Main Event along with a great PPV. Disadvantages: None
...DVD.
The 3 Hour WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony which included Bret Hart first appearance on WWE Television since 1997 and the Survivor Series Screwjob. He agreed to appear for this one night.
His Speech was 42 Minutes long, but it was cut down to 4 Minutes on a TV Special. So you have to buy the DVD to see the whole thing.
Eddie Guerrero's Induction is emotional to watch, as alot of wrestlers are crying. As it is so soon after his death.
Two other ... ...Hogan.
and Sherri Martel's Induction where she appeared Drunk, and wouldn't stop talking after told to wrap up.
------------
In closing you are definatly going to get you £25 worth buying this dvd.
15 Matches in Total over the 3 Disks
A 3 Hour Hall of Fame Ceremony, featuring Bret Hart
2 Hour Saturday Night's Main Event
An Extra 30 Minutes of After Show Interviews.
this is all in addition to the 4 Hour Wrestlemania Show itself.

Advantages: Great spectacle, lively atmosphere Disadvantages: too many below average matches
...the main event for the wwe championship, the world heavyweight championship, a casket match, an extraordinary money in the bank match and a no holds barred match plus more.
Long gone are the days of wrestling when the crowd would cheer every person, as the talent on show at this wrestlemania doesnt compare to that of 7-8 years ago when the wwe reached its peak.
It is worth a look if you can pick it up cheap, but there are many more better options ...
