In the early 1990's wrestling was in danger of becoming boring with all the old pro's in WCW not wanting to let the next generation step up and show what they could do and the WWF loaded with lame gimmicks, when Paul Heyman took over a small Philadelphia based company known at the time as Eastern Championship wrestling. Heyman could see that wrestling needed to change and started on doing just that. He began bringing in new wrestlers such as the Sandman and Sabu, wrestlers who could work a physical match, workers who looked like they would beat you up for looking at you wrong. He also brought in the very tough tag team the Public Enemy and started bringing about a revolution. With athletes such as Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, Terry Funk, Shane Douglas, The Tazmaniac and Sabu they started putting on some truly great matches and started to get fame they quickly became Extreme Championship Wrestling after Shane Douglas threw away the NWA title. ECW continued to grow. This DVD is an amazingly informative look into the most innovative wrestling company ever formed, it has interviews with a lot of there former stars as well as Paul Heyman himself. This DVD goes in-depth and follows ECW from its early beginnings right through to when the eventually went bankrupt. It follows all the stars showing how each one got bigger and bigger then eventually moved on to one of the big 2 at the time, it talks about WCW stealing all of there talent one by one. It is a very honest look at wrestling and why ECW failed when it could have so easily succeeded and still been around today. The DVD extras are very good with 7 extra ECW matches and some stories told by Jericho, Tazz and others.
Advantages: You get to see an in-depth look at what happened behind the scenes, there is no hiding the facts here - everyone is truthful. Disadvantages: Certain guys who you would've like to appear on the DVD couldn't and the match choices for the extra's could have been better.
ECW was the break out company of the 90's. While every other company was sticking to the script of family friendly wrestling matches this new company pushed things to the limit and gathered one hell of a following. This small time Phillie group took things to the extreme and this DVD shows exactly how things changed in the company ont he way to the top and how harsh things can be at the top. Leading to the death of one of the most memorable wrestling ... ...stars the company had such as Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, The Dudleys and Taz. The thought and comments of Dreamer, The Dudleys, Taz and others give you a real in-depth view of how things were inside the company. Also Paul Heyman - the guy who ran the company is very open about everything to do with the company. The thoughts of Heymans compition - the guys ultimatley put him out of business are also very interesting.
The extras have some of the ...

Advantages: A good insight into the most interesting promotion of all time! Disadvantages: Made by the WWE
...DVD for me is the WWE and the ECW working together in the mid 1990s.
It started at the 1995 King of the Ring, where fans in the WWE arena started to chant ECW! ECW! This is where McMahon took notice and first got ECW on the national stage.
Also included in the DVD is other hardcore moments such as Tommy Dreamers amazing caning match with The Sandman, the highly controvesial crucifixion angle involving Raven and the Sandman. The close knit family ... ...2nd in the best selling WWE DVD's. However, there are some disadvantages.
1. Its a WWE production - so we get interviews from WWE employees, such as Dreamer and Taz, but none from real starts such as The Sandman, Raven, Sabu or Shane Douglas
2. Highlights many former WWE wrestlers who did not play a huge part in ECW, such as Stone Cold. He was in the company for barely any time but somehow has a large part on the DVD.
There are many advantages ...
