The Documentary. Hosted by Todd Grisham, the 93 minute doc covers the greatest managers from the WWF, WCW and AWA during their height of existance - late 70's to mid 90's. We get short bio's of Freddie Blassie, The Grand Wizard, Sunny, Jimmy Hart, Paul Bearer, Arnold Skaaland, Sensational Sherri, Jim Cornette, Paul Heyman, Captain Lou Albano, Miss Elizabeth and finally Bobby Heenan. A lot of them are fluff pieces which once watched you don't feel compelled to watch again, but there are some excptions:
Freddie Blassie- probably the most respected manager ever, and a good choice to start, as a lot of later managers borrowed his style and presentation. Sunny- It can be said that she opened the door for today's divas, and surprisingly they cover her in a good light. Arnold Skaaland- He was a lot different to the other managers because he looked after fan favourites all his career, and stayed in the background a lot of the time. Jim Cornette- I hated him when I watched him when I was younger, he just talked and talked and talked and I wanted somebody to shut him up - which i see now was the general idea. Paul Heyman- Another highly entertaining character, I never got to watch him whilst growing up so it was nice to see some of his best moments now. Bobby Heenan- They saved the best til last, as he managed some of the greatest heels of his era.
The Extra's We get three matches (Captain Lou Albano vs. Arnold Skaaland, Bobby Hennan vs. Greg Gagne in a Weasel Suit match & Jim Cornette vs. Paul E Dangerously in a Tuxedo match), none of which are any good but I wasn't expecting them to be. It was nice to see they included the first 'Weasel suit' match though, which is the best of the bunch. There's a load of interview segments (well, 8 of them) covering the main talkers from the documentary. Then we get to the "good" stuff, From a segment of Tuesday Night Titans we get 'Fuji Vice' which is a parody of Miami Vice, complete with bad acting and awful writing. It's funny for all the wrong reasons but quite enjoyable in hindsight. From a previous home video release we get Gene Okerland visiting the Hart Foundation, which is a little long but enjoyable (the bit with the wrestling figures is worth seeing at least once). And finally we get the wedding video from Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth's wedding from SummerSlam '91, I didn't watch it.
Overall. There's nothing wrong with the presentation of the DVD, I can see why all of it was chosen. Nothing on this DVD can be found on any other available release so in that respect they've made something worth buying, it's just that whilst watching the doc I got bored and couldn't wait for Bobby Heenan to be profiled, and the extra's aren't worth watching more than once either.
Quite poor in today's standards, but historically quite interesting.
