Royal Rumble 1992

Considered by many to be the greatest Royal Rumble of all time, Royal Rumble 1992 has a slow start. Opening match pitting The New Foundation Vs The Orient Express isnt that great but serves as an early example of Owen Hart's ability. Not a bad match but terrible compared to today's standards. Rowdy Roddy Piper also one his first WWE Intercontinental championship at this rumble by defeating the mountie in a fair match. The Beverly Brothers deafeated the Bushwhackers, both these teams were dreadfull and this match summed up their in ring ability. The Natural Disasters deafeated the LOD in a reasonable match by countout and Ric Flair one the best Roayal Rumble match in WWE history by lasting the entire match after coming in at position 3. Gorrila Monsoon and Bobby Heenan's commentary are what really make this rumble memorable due to Heenan's constant bias towards The Nature Boy. Heenen is a riot during the entire match and should get a trophy for his "selling" of Ric Flair to the not so familiar WWE crowd (Flair had recently arrived from WCW).

Summary:

The under card is somewhat average but is worht wathcing just to see WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper win his first WWE strap. The Rumble match is probably the best ever, with Heenan's commentary, the Hogan-Justice confrontation and the ammount of name power in the match it certainly serves as a classic WWE event.

Royal Rumble 1993

Unlike the 1992 Royal Rumble it is the undercard that is this PPV's strenth, with the WWE debut of the fantastic Steiner Brothers who are victorios over the dire Beverley Brothers and the brilliant first ever match between former partners Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannety in which Michael's retained the WWE Intercontinental championship these are the events selling points. The match between The Big Boss Man and Bam Bam Bigelow is predictibly bad and the main event between Razor Ramon and Bret Hart is a bit of a let down despite the invetive ending to the match in which Bret applies the sharpshooter (his finishing hold) from the floor. The Rumble match itself was pretty poor but served it's purpose of getting Yokozuna "over" with the masses and destroying everyone in sight, also this is the first ever WWE appearance of The Giant Gonzales who will probably go down in history as the "Worst gimmick ever".

Summary:

Definatly not as good as the '92 rumble but it's still worth a look if only to see the size of the Giant Gonzales (who makes The Great Khali look small). It's nostalgic seeing all these old wrestlers in the ring together, in the Rumble match it features such ledgends as Macho Man Randy Savage, Mr Perfect, The Undertaker and Bob Backlund so the name power is enough to watch it if you havent already.
