2003 was the tenth anniversary of the greatest wrestling programme on TV, WWE Raw. This DVD is in celebration of the programme being on TV for over ten years. As most of you who are wrestling fans would remember - on the anniversary of Raw's tenth, they did a special ceremony in celebration of the occasion, in which they awarded 'Rookie Awards' for different things.
The main thing on this DVD is that ceremony. The ceremony includes 8 Rookie Awards in which I will list below, and counts down the top ten Raw Retro Moments, which I will also list below. *I will list the nominees but not the winners, as I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't seen it - I will tell you what the Retro Moments are as they are listed in the DVD cover anyways, so it wouldn't ruin it for you*
The ceremony is hosted by Jonathan Coachman and Stacy Keibler, and co hosted by JR and King. Rookie Award 1 - Raw Diva of the Decade - Shawn Michaels presents the first award of the night. Nominees were: Chyna, Lita, Sable, Trish Stratus and Sunny.
Raw Retro Moment #10 - This Is Your Life, The Rock - 27/9/99 - This was when Mankind did This Is Your Life to Rock, bringing out some of Rock's teachers from High School. A lot of wrestlers loved it when Mankind did this, and half say that it is their most favourite moment in Raw history, but despite that, it only comes in at number 10 Rookie Award 2 - Don't Try This At Home - Shane McMahon presents the second Rookie Award. The nominees for this award were: Big Show - Chokeslam to Undertaker through canvas. Kurt Angle, moonsault off top of the cage. Jeff Hardy, TLC. Dudley Boyz, Mae Young goes for a ride. The winner of this tries to attempt the longest acceptance speech in the world!
Looked Good On Paper - This just shows a clip of some of the silliest and stupidest 'characters' that there has been in WWE, including BoBo the clown, Goldberg's silly character, William Regal the tree cutter and many more. Raw Retro Moment
#9 - Steve Austin runs over Rock's car with a monster truck - 19/4/99 - This is when Steve and Rock were in their feud, and Steve comes and crush's Rock's car. Good moment, although nearly all Retro Moments are of Austin and Rock!
Rookie Award 3 - Tell Me I Did Not Just See That - Booker T presents this award, whose nominees were: 3 Faces Of Foley, Brawl For All, Zamboni 3:16, The Hug (Vince and Eric) and Kane Fire Starter. Winner wasn't there so Booker T, now joined by Goldust accepts the award, but hints that he'll be keeping it for himself. Gone But Not Forgotten - Ric Flair, who goes well with this segment, comes out to talk about the wrestlers who have died in the past. We are shown a very sad promo of the much loved wrestlers. The ones on the small video, in order, are: Andre The Giant, Joey Marella, Brian Pillman, Ravishing Rick Rude, Owen Hart, Gorilla Monsoon, Yokozuna and of course, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith. Very sad and the song goes well, but makes you cry!
Rookie Award 4 - Gimme The Mic - Chris Jericho presents this award, and of course at this time, Jericho was coming off his heel turn, so he is a bit of dk! The nominees are: Stone Cold, Gimme A Hell Yeah. D generation X, 2 Words For Ya. Kurt Angle, It's True, It's True. Mick Foley, Cheap Pops. Mr McMahon, Don't Cross The Boss. The Rock, The Rock Says. I think you might know who wins this, and the winner really takes the p out of Kurt and Chris Jericho. Raw Retro Moment #8 - The Last WCW Nitro - 26/3/01 - Of course, the last WCW Nitro was where Shane announced to his father that he has bought WCW.
Rookie Award 5 - Shut Up and Kiss Me (or on screen romances) - Tazz and Michael Cole make a cameo on Raw as they present this award. The nominees for this were: Mark Henry and Mae Young, December Romance. Chyna and Eddie Guerrero, Mamasita. Lita and Matt Hardy, Team Xtreme. Mr McMahon and William Regal, Kiss My Ass Club. HHH and Stephanie McMahon, The McMahon Helmsley Era. Raw Retro Moment #7 - Bedpan McMahon - 5/10/01. This was when Mick Foley visited Vince in hospital with Mr Socko!
Rookie Award 6 - Network Difficulties - Mean Gene Orkerland and Pat Patterson present this award. The nominees were: Mae Young, A Hand Is Born. Stone Cold, Santa Stunner. 3 Minute Warning, Hot Lesbian Action. Brian Pillman, Pillman's Got A Gun. Raw Retro Moment #6 - D generation X imitates the Nation of Domination - 6/7/98. This was funny! It was when HHH took on the role of the Rock, and the rest of DX imitates the NoD.
Rookie Award 7 - Raw Superstar Of The Decade - Brock Lesnar presents this award where the nominees were: Mick Foley, Stone Cold, The Rock, Bret Hart, Triple H and The Undertaker. I suppose you can tell the winner of this one! Raw Retro Moment #5 - Austin Confrontation - 19/1/98 - This was when Steve Austin offered out Mike Tyson
Rookie Award 8 - Raw's Greatest Match - This isn't presented by anybody, but the nominees were: Jeff Hardy v Kane, v Christian v RVD v Chris Jericho v Bubba Ray Dudley v Spike Dudley, TLC 4 2002. Triple H v Cactus Jack 1997. Jeff Hardy v The Undertaker 2002. Stone Cold v Kane 1998. JR and King announce the winner. Raw Retro Moment # 4 - DX Invade WCW - 27/4/98 - Obviously, this was when DX invaded WCW. This was funny as they were all dressed as soldiers with bushes on their heads!
Raw Retro Moment # 3 - Hollywood Hulk Hogan and The Rock Confrontation - 18/2/02 - Hulk confronts ex partner Rock before their Icon v Icon match at Wrestlemania. Raw Retro Moment #2 - Owen Hart Tribute - 24/5/99 - Personally, like a lot of you, I think this should have been
Pictures of WWE - Raw 10th Anniversary (DVD)
number one. This was the Raw after the night Owen Hart died live on TV on Over The Edge. Quite sad to watch.
Raw Retro Moment #1 - Greatest Moment In Raw History - Stone Cold Beer Truck - 22/3/99 - This was when Stone Cold threw beer over Vince, The Rock and Shane. Edge presents this award for greatest moment. This is entertaining to watch, but the winner's are known beforehand to themselves, and when they accept their award, they are acting so that really sucks! That's the only thing wrong with the award ceremony. All the wrestlers end up on stage together at the end, which is a good moment to see. The thing that disappointed me was the #1 Raw Retro Moment, as that wasn't the best moment in Raw History!
The extras on the DVD are below: Raw Retro Moments - This is where you can watch all the Raw Retro Moments shown at the ceremony, and also one or 2 more that didn't make it into the top 10. These are, The Black Wedding, Sable Undressed, It Never Happened, Never Say Never and Raw Divas.
Raw Matches - The first ever main event on Raw - 11/193. Undertaker v Damian Domento. Also, you can watch Raw's Greatest Match, TLC 4 fully too. Interviews - These disappointed me as I thought that they would be longer! Terri asks the superstars listed below one question, they answer it and it ends, so each 'interview' if you can call it that is like 30 seconds long. This was disappointing. Victoria, Fabulous Moolah, Chris Benoit, Big Show, Kane, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, William Regal, Linda McMahon, Michael Cole and Tazz, Shawn Michaels, Bubba Ray Dudley, Scott Steiner and Matt Hardy.
Extras: The Making Of Raw On The Roof - This is just behind the scenes for Raw On The Roof. Alright to watch. 5 minutes long so it is a decent length. Behind The Scenes At Raw's Tenth Anniversary Special - This just shows the wrestlers arriving, and Terri goes around looking at the superstar's clothes and so on. A couple of wrestlers say their favourite moment, and some try and guess the best match. This is also 5 minutes long, so decent length again.
Awards Not Seen On TV - Jonathan Coachman present 2 extra awards. Now That's and Entrance - Goldust, Chris Jericho, DX, The Brood and The Undertaker. Lasting Impression (Best Imitation) - The Rock On A Roll, HB Undertaker, The Nature Boss Vince Mc Flair and The Nation of G Generation. These awards are presented backstage with nobody around! Raw Tenth Anniversary Recap On SmackDown - 16/1/03 - Brief look at the ceremony on SmackDown. Nearly 3 minutes long. I don't suppose you need to see it if you've just watched the whole thing, but it's an alright extra.
DVD INFO - This DVD has a 15 rating. It was released in 2003 by Silver Vision, who is the company who do the WWE DVD's for Europe. Average playing time is 177 minutes including extras and interviews. It cost about £10 from Amazon. The cover of this DVD is plain white with the Raw logo and title of the DVD in the centre. The caption of the DVD is below this, reading - 10 Years. Uncooked. Uncut. The back has a small bit about the DVD and lists the extras. There is a picture of Stone Cold, The Rock, HHH and some smaller pioctures of different moments from Raw. The back also includes the usual information of running time and release date, which was 2003. The inlay is the same, except it lists out everything on the DVD.
All in this entire DVD is a good thing to have if you are a fan of wrestling. Although it isn't necessarily a wrestling DVD, it is a good keepsake for the future if one day Raw finishes! The extras and interviews are quite disappointing, but all in all, the DVD is a good buy.
