WWE - Incredible Steel Cage Matches (DVD)

As a WWE fan I was very excited when this DVD 2-disc set was announced and I rushed down to buy it upon its release.
The cover has a blue haze to it, giving it a pretty unique look amongst the dozens of wrestling DVDs on the shelves nowadays.

The Steel Cage is a blue/black/silver cage consisting either of bars or of wire mesh fencing, that is designed:-

...recently been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, and when you watch matches such as this one - it's easy to see why.

The Steel Cage is a blue/black/silver cage consisting either of bars or of wire mesh fencing, that is designed:-

---- To keep the competitors INSIDE the cage

The match can be won in several different ways depending on the situation, but usually consists of exiting the cage through the door or scaling the wall of the cage and climbing outside.
In some of the matches a pinfall can also determine the result.

Rather than list every match for you I'll give you a rundown on the cream of the crop.....

Bret Hart versus Owen Hart (1994)

This match was the best in the Summerslam 1994 event, combining high-flying suplexes and slams with some of the best technical wrestling you'll ever see.
This has been made all the more memorable by the fact that Owen Hart tragically died a number of years later, and his brother Bret would have a sudden wnd to his own career at around the same time.
Bret Hart has recently been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, and when you watch matches such as this one - it's easy to see why.

StoneCold Steve Austin versus Mr. McMahon (1999)

This cage match took place at the appropriately named 'St Valentine's Day Massacre' and has a major surprise for an ending.
I wont tell you what it is because I don't want to spolit it if you don't know.

Edge & Christian versus The Hardy Boys (2000)

2 terrific teams wrestling in a classy classy match-up.
Let's just say that some of the moves such as Senton Bombs in this have to be seen to be believed. All four competitors give their all, and it's no wonder that so many wreslers are physically injured in matches such as these.
Chrsitian and Jeff Hardy now work for TNA, whereas Edge is a main-event player on Raw and Matt Hardy is on Smackdown. Matt Hardy is also a part of The King Of The Ring tournament which runs over the coming weeks.

Once the DVD has loaded, you'll notice how nice the theme tune is. It's a sort of cross between trance and some Enya music I remember from a few years ago. The footage playing in the background is in black and white, reflecting the barbarity of some of the matches and the classic nature of the set.

The only downside I can think of is that not all of the matches have fared well in standing the test of time.
Some of the older bouts featuring Bob Backlund for example, are slow-moving compared to what we are used to seeing today. This therefore will not be for everybody, but there is a good enough mix of matches from the past 3 decades to make this TWO DVD set well worth buying.
