Yeah ok I am a fan of WWE. So what? I am just an ordinary 17 year old with little brothers who are obsessed with the show so I do have an unhealthy knowledge of the sport of wrestling. No matter who you are, you will know someone who has a secret obession to WWE, you don't have to be a teenager. It has been found that WWE is watched by many walks of life from OAP's to working professionals. Watching it is a fantastic way to kick back and let professional wrestlers do the most fantastic moves, follow exciting story lines and see their passion to be the champion. I found this kicking about in the DVD shelf so thought would have a watch and give a fab review!
Cyber Sunday is a fairly new idea from the WWE to try and get the audience involved in the matches. This means selecting competors, referees and match styles using an internet voting system. This has been popular with one of the polls on the DVD had more than 14 and a half MILLION votes online. It was brought in to replace 'Taboo Tuesday' so this episode is the first Cyber Sunday shown on pay-per-view. However it only effects the Raw brand, so you won't see any of the Smackdown or ECW super stars in these matches.
This DVD has 7 matches on it, all of which have been shown on the WWE before however you do get to see some extra footage like DX warming up the crowd. However this is only because you get to see the camera running the whole time so you don't miss a thing. These matches are:
Big Show Vs. John Cena Vs. King Booker The idea of this match is to have the ECW Champ vs WWE champ vs World Heavyweight Champ, with a winner takes all. So potentially one of the wrestlers could go home with two championship titles earned. This features a storyline which the WWE does so well to dramatise the matches and make it even more exciting. Queen Booker (Ironically King Bookers wife) tries to talk down the Big Show to work with her husband in the match. However he totally disagrees and tells her basically where to go. Later on King Booker pleads to Cena personally but nope he isn't having any of it. This is a no disqualification match which are always the most dramatic. This means that wrestlers can use weapons such as steal chairs, tables and even the commentators desk. Of course the three competors use everything, in a highly dramatic match which sees blood, sweat and pain! Who will wins who's title? A classic match which twist and turns every second! 5/5
D-Generation-X (DX) Vs. Edge & Randy Orton I love DX! It is made up of the Tag Team of Triple H and Shawn Micheals. They are the comedy duo who get up to some mischief, destroying the WWE empire and annoying their boss. This match sees them face Randy Orton and Edge who are an unlikely coupling. Both are WWE champions and brilliant in their own right but both share a massive dislike Triple H and Shawn Micheals. Triple H ended up taking the Championship from Orton, while Micheals stopped Edge achieving the championship as well. It is personal, which makes the match interesting. Fans get to choose the Special Guest Referee which has some interesting selections from Eric Bishoff Vince McMahon and Coachmen. In real life McMahon is Triple H's father in law and Eric Bishoff has a strong hate towards DX. But the fans overwhelmingly voted for Bishoff which would in theory make it more difficult for DX to win. DX warm up the crowd brilliantly and both sides produces some excellent moves. However this match has the sparkle as it shows illegal moves and the extremes in which wrestling could go, but who will win? 5+/5
Jeff Hardy Vs. Carlito Anyone who has been watching WWE for a long time will have heard of Jeff Hardy. He could possibly be one of the most famous and likeable superstars in the last decade, with his amazing athletic ability. Now again fans got to pick from three potential competetors which were Carlito, Shelton Benjamin or Nitro. Carlito was picked with 62% of the vote and is ready with his trademark Apple to kick some ass. The intercontental championship is up for grabs so this is bound to be a tough match. Unlike Kane and Umaga, these men use gymnastics much more as they are smaller. This gives a completely different style of wrestling which is amazing to watch. The moves these men do is amazing and is so quick you have to watch carefully to keep up. In the first thirty seconds they have both tried to pin each other three times! One of my favourite matches, it was so energetic and was a real crowd pleaser. 5/5
Umaga Vs. Kane Fans were asked who they wanted to face Umaga so they all got busy online to cast their votes. They got to pick from Raw superstars Kane, Chris Benoit and the Sandman and with a majority of 49% he was picked. However Kane as many WWE fans will know, is a huge scary guy so it does seem to freak out Umaga a bit. I really enjoyed this match, these two very big guys battle it out to be the best. There was some very good powerful moves and I was sometimes dumbstruck at the skill and moves these huge guys were able to do. There was one move however I did know that was fake which annoyed me a bit. The WWE has done that sometimes and it just brings their reputation right down. A very entertaining and skill full match but who will win? 4.5/5
Cryme Tyme Vs. The Highlanders Vs. Viscera (Also known as Big Daddy V) & Charlie Haas Vs. Lance Kade and Trevor McDonald Fans got the vote for the type of match they wanted the Tag Teams to compete in. So you could pick from 'Fatal Four Way' 'Tag Team Turmoil' or 'Texas Tornado'. Just to clarify the matches aren't really that different, each involve all the teams but Texas Tornado involves 'every man for themself.' Many tag team matches involve only one competetor at a time but this really is a mess of fighting! The first person to pin means their team will win. As someone who is Scottish and proud, the Highlanders are very sterotypical Scotsmen and Scot's are really all like that. However with that out my system I thought this was general a very sterotypical match, putting black gangsters and cowboys into it. However this was a very entertaining match with a lot of action and really enjoyed it a lot. However there is a lot going on so it is a bit difficult to keep up. 4.5/5
Mickie James Vs. Lita (Divas Match) I'm not that keen on womens matches (no fit men!) however Lita is by far my favourite Diva. She is unlike many of the others who are very girly and samey, Lita is different and proud to be unique. She also goes out with Edge as well and you actually see her congratulating him after the match, before she goes and does her own match. This match sees all the Divas come out in their best wear (and upsetting all the males in the audience, if you get my drift!) Lita and Mickie come out into the ring and fight out for the Women's Championship. Fans get to vote for the type of match in which they got to choose from 'No Disqualification' 'Diva Lumberjacks' or 'Submission'. The Lumberjacks match won by only 6% which means the rest of the Divas (around 20 of them) have to surround the ring and make sure that if one of the divas is thrown out the ring, they go back in. These two girls are ruthless and it definately is a violent match, with some absolutely stunning moves. Prepare to see nail scratching and pulling of hair, ouch! 4.5/5
Spirit Squad Vs. Ric Flair and Roddy Rowdy Piper Older viewers of WWE (WWF) will know of Ric Flair and Roddy Rowdy Piper as they are in the hall of fame and highly skilled and considered some of the best wrestlers in the world. Between them they have over 30 world wrestling championships between them and are considered 'the legend of legends'. The fans had to pick who they wanted to be Ric Flair's partner and had a choice of Sgt Slaughter, Roddy Pipper and Dusty Rhodes. All best known for the participation in wrestling in 'older' days but all still as game as ever. Roddy won with 46% of the vote and was ready to go. The Spirit Squad is a bit of a joke really, with some highly talented wrestlers, but some terribly bad luck. A group of five of them against these two legends, this is going to be a good match. This is a comical match but I really couldn't take it very seriously at all. It was very entertaining but I got the feeling some of it had been rehearsed if you get my drift. However you may be surprised at the outcome of this match, very entertaining indeed!!! 4.5/5
Extra Features You can get commentry in 6 different languages. This is excellent because there is very little speaking in wrestling so it is only the commentry. I was looking forward to some dramatic interviews, behind the scene takes and maybe see some extra unseen footage. There are three special features in the extras menu:
The first feature is 'Legends Partying With Divas' which see's Ric Flair and Roddy 'Rowdy' Piper partying and with bottles of champagne with all the WWE divas. This is a minute long featurette and pretty pointless. Ok for boys you get to see fit girls covered in champagne. It was a pointless bit of footage to put on the DVD and was sitting there think, why? 1/5
The second feature is an interview with Umaga. Again it is short and is a bit unnessicary. I found the interview itself quite interesting, you get to see him discussing (in character I may add) about the match he has just been in. It is short and to the point, however pretty disappointing. 2/5
The third feature is MUCH better than the previous two. This is an actual unseen match between Randy Orton & Edge Vs. Ric Flair and Roddy Piper. This is a full 15 minute match and an unexpected extra. It doesn't say why the match was set up or even when but it is highly entertaining. This match is not for a title and is just for entertainment purposes. There are some fantastic moves here, as you see the Current Superstars against Classics. I loved this match and thought this was all we were getting but yet MORE footage! DX come and SAVE RIC FLAIR AND RODDY PIPER FROM EDGE AND ORTON! This was such a twist and super dramatic. Many know that Ric Flair is the idol of both Micheals and Triple H and they help let them beat Edge and Orton. Ooo what an exciting match, loved every minute and had never seen it before either which made it even better. And just before it could get any better DX bring out a new character called 'Big Dick Johnson' which is a rather large dancing man. To the shock of the audience he then begins to get his kit off and in a hiliarious situation, gets the horrible ref, Bishoff to kiss his ass! Super funny moment and was a brilliant add on to the DVD! 5+/5
Overall I really enjoyed this DVD, it offers 2 and a half hours of quality WWE action. The characters/wrestlers were talented, funny and really professional. I loved watching them do breathtaking moves to their opponents. The extra features started off on a very low but got so brilliant. Throughout writing this review I struggled with whether to give this DVD 4 or 5 stars. I'm giving it four but really it is worth an extra half star. It isn't quite five star but it is a really good entertaining DVD that all WWE fans should own. I'm a avid fan and so is my family, and is one of the these guilty pleasures. I'm sure looking at me, no one would think I could ever be a fan. This is an action packed, funny and great DVD which shows off fan made matches. Loved it!
