Disappointment is one word in which to describe the Bad Blood, Raw only, pay per view of 2003. And lets face it, if I had known just how poor it was to be, I just wouldn't have bothered!
We start the pay per view off by the forever curtain jerker tag team of the Dudley Boyz taking on fellow jobbers Rodney Mack and Christopher Nowinski. ECW benefited a tag team such as the Dudleyz as they were able to do what they do best; hardcore action with the roaring New York fans. The WWE really didn't create too many opportunities for them and therefore they possibly never reached their full potential. However, the match was enough to make anyone fall into a deep coma within the first two minutes. The ending came when Chris hit Bubba in the face with his nose protection mask (?).
Scott Steiner vs Test for Stacy Keiblers 'services' was the second match the Houston crowd were privileged enough to view. Or not as the case maybe. The match involved seeing Test using heel tactics in an effort to win the match. Steiner, to be fair, was past his best and I don't think Test ever had a best.
Christian vs Booker T was one of the better matches of the evening. The real heel in the CLB defended his Intercontinental Championship against the belts former owner of Booker T, the notorious 5 time WCW champion. Booker T picked up the victory via DQ after Christian grabbed the belt before nearly loosing the belt via count out. A clear shot to Bookers head meant a clear loss for Christian but he kept his beloved belt with his '$700 haircut' when the referee told him that if he didn't get back to the ring by the count of 10, he would loose the belt.
RVD & Kane were a force to be reckoned with, one of the better tag teams of 2003. Alas, they loose the World Tag Team title belts to the old has been gimmicked wrestlers of La Resistance. The match didn't reach it's full potential...
The fierce battle between the King of the World Chris Jericho vs Goldberg was next. The highlight of this match came when Mr WCW Popularity winner Goldberg attempted to spear Y2J but instead speared the barrier. Wow. Then he got a cut to his head. So brave. Yeah, right. Goldberg managed to win the match using a jackass, I mean, Jackhammer slam on Chris who will 'never be the same, By God!'.
The match that many people had been anticipating for a good number of years was about to occur when HBK Shawn Michaels took on his childhood hero of the Nature Boy, Ric Flair. The match was destined to be a hit and to be talked about in years to come. Yet, we couldn't have a great match ending could we? Not in the WWE. Randy 'I like to play with myself' Orton hit the ring to save his Evolution team mate. Ric picked up the win, and the crowd left unhappy at the end result.
The moment you've been waiting for. The main event. The Hell in a Cell match between former Clique members Kevin Nash and World Heavyweight Champion Triple H. It spelled farce from the beginning and the only ounce of charisma in the ring was from Hardcore Legend referee Mick Foley. Pairing these two up in a match was a bad decision. Triple H used to be good but hasn't seemed the same since his quad injury in 2001. Kevin, well, he's never been good. The best part of this match was not only the ending but when Trips tried to open Big Lazy's head with a screw driver. Classic. Unlike the match. Triple H picks up the victory, as if he wouldn't do.
The most comical happenings throughout the pay per view was the Redneck Triathlon when co general managers Stone Cold Steve Austin took on Eric Bishoff. Without any surprises, Austin won the the burping contest while Bishoff drew while winning the 'pie' eating contest where Mai Young was the pie...sexy. Unfortunately for the former WCW owner, he got covered in pig crap by the end of the proceedings, making Austin the winner of the Triathlon. Yet, we don't buy wrestling DVD's to see people not wrestle. We buy them to see a great performance of athleticism and talent, something which the DVD undeniably lacks...
