DVD Description
In a selfless act of buddy love, motor-mouthed WEDDING CRASHERS star Vince Vaughn brings four rising comedy stars on a tour of 30 U.S. cities in 30 days, all captured in this documentary/stand-up comedy film. The comics that brave this breakneck-pace journey are Ahmed Ahmed, Bret Ernst, Sebastian Maniscalo, and John Caparulo. Patterned after the old Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, Vaughn's caravan of merriment is raunchy and fraternity party-ready, but also surprisingly sweet-natured. Interspersed with Vaughn's skits and the stand-up footage is lots of juicy hand-held tour documentary material: the cities visited, the rowdy fans (including the Katrina victims invited for free), the families of the comics, and plenty of male bonding. Guest stars include John Favreau and Justin Long (in a hilarious pre-tour bit reading Vaughn's part from SWINGERS), and country star Dwight Yoakam (singing a duet with Vaughn). Former child-star-turned-producer Peter Billingsley (A CHRISTMAS STORY) is also aboard, doing skits with Vaughn. Director Ari Sandel keeps the action flowing in a flurry of sound bytes and montage. Best of all is the chance to watch these jokers wrestle with all the anxiety and self-doubt that comes with the territory, then actually change and--in some cases--improve as comedians over the course of the tour. Vaughn holds it together with enough aplomb to surely make old Buffalo Bill proud.
Advantages: Reasonable Special effects Disadvantages: Plot, Acting
...that the filmmakers have tried hard to recreate the wackiness of the original 60's show but whereas in a recent remake of another 60's hits 'Lost In Space' they got it wrong by treating it too seriously in this case they overdid the campness to such extent that you find it difficult to see beyond the special effects and action sequences an follow any kind of cohesiveness story. On suspect that the main problem is that while the original show was camp/slightly off the wall without really trying 'WildWildWest' the film is self-consciously trying to hard to recreate the 60's chic feel of the original.
On to the performances… as far as Will Smith goes he's one of those actor that you either like of hate and this is true of all his performances (except Ali!) since he ends up playing himself. Surprise, surprise in this we find him as a wisecracking, woman...

Advantages: The complet series of a very original comedy. Disadvantages: The laughter track in series 1.
...First off WildWest is a much underrated comedy; I only became aware of it in 2002 when the second series aired. I decided to watch it because it had Dawn French in and I am a big fan of hers. Having not watched the first series I was worried I might not understand the plot, but I got straight into it, and it was fantastic.
A quotation on the cover summarises this sitcom perfectly; “The Vicar of Dibley meets the League of Gentlemen”. However, I was shocked to find out the writer was none other then the creator of “Men Behaving Badly”, Simon Nye. I would have never guessed Simon Nye would have written such a dark and whimsical comedy series, when his well-known comedy is completely opposite, that’ll teach me to make assumptions!
An odd thing about WildWest is how much the series changed between one and two, in terms of feel...

Advantages: based on a true story, has a very personal and touching feel to it, good performances Disadvantages: Long/drawn out so may bore some, where he ends up may seem a little convenient
...Caprio and Shane West (which is random but there you go lol). VinceVaughn was also good as Wayne Westerberg, I'm a fan of Vinces so I had to mention that lol and Hal Holbrook, as I previously mentioned, also gave a very good performance, I felt.
The camerawork is quite good in parts and it certainly does add to the atmosphere of the movie, some scenes at the end of the movie are particularly dramatic and during the movie, showing off the natural beauty of the landscapes Chris found himself surrounded by, so the cinematography is quite impressive in parts.
**Important note/warning! In the next two paragraphs, I note things which could, by some, be seen to be slight spoilers or could give you a clue to the possible outcome of the movie. I always try not to give spoilers but I felt I wanted to add these points, that it added to my review and I...
