DVD Description
In Robert Aldrich's action-packed Western, Benjamin Trane (Gary Cooper) and Joe Erin (Burt Lancaster) are American soldiers of fortune hired by the Austrian ruler of Mexico, Maximilian, to safeguard a royal convoy transporting gold and an Austrian countess to the port of Vera Cruz. Things get complicated for the mercenaries when they begin to mistrust one another--and when Erin starts to fall for the countess. Aldrich throws a bit of European exotica into the standard oater formula of guns, grit, and gold to create a striking, memorable film that showcases the acting talents of Cooper and Lancaster, two monumental Hollywood stars. The director also sprinkles some trenchant historical commentary into his powder-keg narrative by showing the Hapsburg empire's bumbling attempt to annex Mexico.
Advantages: Perfectly directed with exceptional talented women Disadvantages: None except that you are encourage to watch it again
...I WATCHED THIS FILM late last year in a widescreen at Queens Film Theatre (Belfast). Every year, the theatre holds a film festival that feature selected international productions like from Romania, France, USA, Australia, Norway Canada and Spain. I do love movies and if there is an opportunity to attend these film festivals, I will really fix my schedule to make sure that I could watch all the films featured in the festival. So after reading the film guide flyer and without any hesitation, I decided to settle with 'Volver' - a Spanish production and Penelope Cruz in the cast which Cruz was nominated in this year's Oscar award for best actress. Frankly, I don't have any idea about the Spanish director and the rest of the cast, except for Penelope whom I had a crush on her since I have seen her first Hollywood starring role. The last time...

INTRODUCTION
*******************
Vera Drake is the hardworking mother or a working class family in 1950’s London- a London still recovering from the ravages of war. Stockings and certain foodstuffs are still in short supply, many women are working to provide for their families after the loss of fathers and husbands, and many people still live in buildings that can only be described as slums.
Vera’s quite lucky though. She’s not rich, but she has a comfortable home, albeit only a few rooms, a loving and devoted husband, and two children who are both working. Her husband works for his brother in a garage...

Advantages: Wide view of Picture as intended for cinemas Disadvantages: Unsuitable view for Portable DVD's
...The third and final part (as of yet) of the Die Hard series and Bruce Willis is back this time alongside Samuel L Jackson.
This Widescreen version is suitable for anyone who's television set as the ability to show widescreen pictures. With this you can see more of the film has it was intended to be seen at the cinema. Sometimes films are cut to fit onto standard screen sizes. The film is probably the best of the three films and Jackson gives Willis a run for his money in the action scenes.
The Villian played by Jeremy Irons although not as good has Alan Rickman in the first Die Hard film does an excellent potrayal of a German villian. If you are a fan of the series but have only watched them on television (with adverts betwween) then go and purchase this film and see how it was intended to be seen....
