You had Heer-Ranjha.. Laila Majnu.. and now theres Veer Zaara.. another truly great love story. The film is full of emotion, romance, songs, drama and most importantly.. soul, which has been lacking in quite a few bollywood movies lately!

Squadron leader Veer Pratap Singh (Shahrukh Khan) is a rescue pilot with the Indian Air Force, whilst on duty he comes across Zaara Hayaat Khan (Preity Zinta) the daughter of a Pakistani Politician (Boman Irani). She is a simple girl by nature, happy to marry the man of her parents choice, Raza (Manoj Bajpai). She goes to India to fulfill her Punjabi Grandmothers (Zohra Segal) last wish; to immerse her ashes in the holy river.

But the bus she is travelling in meets with an accident, which is when she meets Veer. Their first impressions on each other are not so good, but before they realize it they fall in love.
Veer helps Zaara to fulfill her grandmothers wish, so in return he asks her to go with him to the place he grew up in (Punjab).
Veer's uncle (Amitabh Bachan) and aunt (Hema Malini) have looked after him since his parents passed away in his early childhood. They also develop a strong liking for Zaara and hope that she will be the one who Veer asks to marry him.

But before Veer can express his love, Raza comes in to India in search of Zaara. Once Zaara is back in Lahore.. she find it difficult to forget Veer, thinking of him all the time. She tells her maid Shabbo (Divya Dutta) who then secretly phones Veer in Punjab to explain the situation to him. After hearing this Veer gives up his job and comes to lahore. He meets Zaara at the temple in the presence of her family and future in-laws.

However the wedding between Raza and Zaara still takes place but also at the same time.. Veer has been arrested by Pakistani Police on charges of being a Spy.

Twenty Two years later.. Saamiya Sidiqui (Rani Mukherjee) a pakistani lawyer comes to Veer's rescue. She meets Veer Pratap Singh for the first time, who has been in a pakistani prison for 22 years and not spoken one word.

But why has Veer been silent for 22 years? Where did Zaara go? Saamiya takes it upon herself to find out the truth about this man.

Veer zaara is mature love story.. with outstanding characters. Just when you think the story becomes predictable.. theres a twist and everything changes!

The music in this film is done by the famous Late Madan Mohan.. who relies upon melody and his tunes fit the storyline.
'Main Yahaan Hoon' and 'Lodi' are two songs I really liked.. I could listen to them again and again. The actors were all amazing.. carrying out their roles with ease. Rani Mukherjee particularily was a 'Scene Stealer' she takes giant strides with this role and relies completely on expressions for her role.

I went to see this movie 3 times in the cinema.. I thought it was great! The DVD can be bought on Amazon, in HMV and other major stores from £10 to £18. The special Edition DVD contains.. deleted scenes from the movie.. unseen footage.. the making and even more songs by madan mohan not included in Veer Zaara.. its a great buy.. not to be missed out on!

Overall a gripping love story.. that is sure to touch your hearts.. x
