The story
The film starts off in Transylvania in the late 19th century and castle Frankenstein as Dr Frankenstein finishes his lifelong experiment and revives a monster made from the parts of corpses. While at the same time an angry mob is approaching to break into the castle after the Doctor. We are also at this time introduced to Dracula, who has been backing the Doctor with his experiments and reveals that he has his own agenda for the monster and kills the Doctor. The monster in anger attacks Dracula and runs off with the body of the Doctor to a nearby mill where the mob set fire to it and the monster falls into ...
Advantages: Good Graphics, Great costumes. Disadvantages: Wouldn't call a horror!!!! Not very Scary
Right I have put this in my disadvantages but need to state it again. This is not a horror movie. The characters that are portrayed in this movie may suggest a horror. But it is far from scary.
We all know the story of VanHelsing and Dracula. Portrayed very well in the classics as an old man..
This is different, very different. We see VanHelsing as a younger man, much stronger and agile. Gone has the lurking in the corner trying to prise dracula out or preaching, replaced by fancy gadgets for killing and hands on approach for getting the job done.
The movie starts in black and white, yes don't try and bang your T.V or think you brought a dud! with Frankenstien being brought to life and Dracula helping. There is a uproar by the locals and Frankenstien ends up falling through a windmill on fire! The movie then moves onto ...
Advantages: good effects, captivating Disadvantages: none really
At first I didnt know what this was about, thinking it could be something gangster type or action.
VanHelsing is actually the name of a bounty hunter if you like. He helps the church ( irony) in getting rid of bad characters. These are fairytale characters or known names like Dr Jekyll and Mister Hyde, or Frankenstein.
It stars wolverine, which is funny as he seems to be type cast!
His next mission is to kill the head vampire. He takes along a funny sidekick monk, and off they go.
On arriving, we find Kate Beckinsale having fun with a transylvanian accent, the last surviving member since a hunting trip for werewolves caused her brother to become one. Her family were the chain to kill vampires, so she and wolverine hook up to try together.
The brother keeps appearing as a werewolf, and she stays loyal to him even ...
All varieties of otherworldly creatures come out to play in Stephen Sommers' gothic carnival. Frankenstein's monster, ferocious werewolves, vampire bat babies, a maniacal scientist named Igor, and a CGI Dr. Jekyll are just a few. When they come together, a thrilling fantasy adventure results, making VAN HELSING a visual feast. Destined to fight the world's evil, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is a warrior in a cowboy hat and a trench coat, heavily armed with a rapid-fire multi-arrow crossbow, among other gadgetry. A legion of monks in Rome send Van Helsing to Transylvania to hunt the immortal Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh), who terrorises the local people with the help of his three vampire brides. Especially threatened is the vixen Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), whose family also strives to kill the Count. Van Helsing and Anna Valerious work together, searching for the secret door to Dracula's lair. But it is only after massive battles involving impossible stunts, races on horse-pulled carriages, and the desecration of enchanting medieval castles (all done with dizzying computer graphics) that they succeed. Not only does the eye candy keep on coming, the tongue-in-cheek writing and deep Transylvanian accents perfect the film with a dose of dark humour.
