Valmont DVD

Advantages: Good and pacy storyline
Disadvantages: characters a bit one dimensional

...Sarah Michelle Gellar of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ fame plays Kathryn and takes the starring role in this sexy tale of seduction and betrayal, alongside her is Ryan Phillippe is stepbrother Valmont and is remembered for his role in ‘….know what you did last summer’ flicks. The two teenage reprobates play bored, uncaring and very rich stepsiblings from upper NY full of contempt for high morals, trust, other people and of course their privileged lifestyle. The film is well cast and superbly filmed with a storyline that moves along at a good pace and keeps you interested, particularly to see if our debauched pair will get their comeuppance. Anyway back to the plot, Valmont is bored of his easy past sexual conquests and has dangerously set his sights on the beautiful but virginal headmasters daughter... Read review

Advantages: Entertaining
Disadvantages: But ultimately flawed

...Although this film came out with a blaze of publicity (especially about the much touted lesbian kiss between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair) it failed to deliver on so many levels. The DVD version of CI has several deleted scenes - including one where Sebastian catches Greg and Joshua in bed. The deleted scene is so much more... Valmont than the one they shot in its place. The whole film is a compromise between sticking to the plot and getting a 15 rather than an 18 rating. The relationship between Sebastian and his 'Madame de Tourvel' Annette never reaches the same intensity as the more cerebral Dangerous Liaisons, or indeed the more fun Valmont. In short, it seems contrived, and inevitable that they will be together. It isn`t the movie`s fault, however. The pulling power of the cast (mainly in the teen age group) demanded... Read review

...Cruel Intentions is excellent. The film is a modern day version of Dangerous Liaisons. The film stars Ryan Phillippe as Sebastian Valmont a seducer of woman who lives in a mansion in manhattan with his stepsister Kathryn Merteuil played by Sarah Michelle gellar (Buffy the vampire Slayer). Kathryn is annoyed when she is dumped by her boyfriend for Cecile (Selma Blair) and take her revenge by temping Sebastian to seduce and ruin cecile reputation. Sebastian then finds a better challenge in Annette (Reese Witherspoon), the daughter of the headmaster. He and kathryn make a bet that sebatian can sleep with her. If she wins Kathryn gets his sports car, but if she loses sebatian gets Kathryn. So Sebatian go all out to win over Annette. I would recmommed this film to everyone who likes wickedness and lots a sex in their films.... Read review
