I was lucky enough to attend a preview screening with my family (girls 7 and 10) of the latest Disney/Pixar movie UP released 29th May in the US and scheduled for release in the UK October Half-term. This is without doubt a classic movie. It really shows what state of the art animation can do, true characterisation, humour and pathos. The early part of the movie portrays the life of our hero, his meeting with his life partner their life together and her eventual death. This section was done superbly no-one could fail to be moved by the sensitivity of this story. The next section dwells on the threats to the family home and the eventual UP of the title. A comedy partnership is initiated with a young scout who travels "up" with the old man, eventually to the excitement of the quest. Trials and tribulation follow, my youngest showed a little concern but of course happy endings.... On seeing pictures of the old man you might wonder about the design and artwork but don't, the facial designs used enable a much finer set of expressions to be incorporated the 3D treatment was slight and used to nice effect much better than the recently released Coraline and I felt the Disney 3D technology was in advance of anything I have seen elsewhere. In summary, the best animated movie I have ever experienced even rivalling and surpassing The Incredibles! I really doubt that live actors could have made a better entertainment! watch out, the future beckons.
