This is a truly remarkable film that quite rightly has rocketed its way to the 25th best film of all time on the imdb.com list, and that’s from 27000 votes. Although it’s an animation, it is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and completely blew me away when I watched it.

This is a truly remarkable film that quite rightly has rocketed its way to the 25th best film of all time on the imdb.com list, and that’s from 27000 votes. Although it’s an animation, it is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and completely blew me away when I watched it.
The film begins with two children meeting each-other. A boy and a girl, they develop a friendship. There then follows a truly heartbreaking montage that shows them growing up, getting married, losing a baby, getting old, and eventually the wife dying. This few minutes of film is something so profound it just blew me and my wife away, and I can’t put into words the simple but effective power it had.
What you’re left with, then, is 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, the boy from the start of the movie, who undertakes an adventure never before conceived of. His dream with his wife was to travel to this far away canyon in the US outback, and he decides to make that dream a reality. Despite being old and decrepit, he ties a load of balloons to his house and so begins the amazing floating journey. Oh, and a funny little lad called Russell gets involved too.
From here, it’s a really fun loving, heart warming adventure that is as fantastical and odd as it is lovely.
The story makes this strangely accessible both to kids (who will love the fun and adventure) and adults, who I truly believe will be touched by the story. It really makes you think about the short space of time we are here, and how we should really use that properly and go for our dreams.
The animation is top-notch, coming from Disney you know it will be. The voice over work is fantastic, and the characters are lovable. I totally cannot fault this film, and I am in no way a fan of animation.
At 96 minutes, this is the perfect length to get into it but not feel it’s draggin at all, and I just cannot rate this film highly enough. My feeling is that it’s simply THE best animation film ever, and that you will love it when you watch it!

...of the latest Disney/Pixar movie UP released 29th May in the US and scheduled for release in the UK October Half-term. This is without doubt a classic movie. It really shows what state of the art animation can do, true characterisation, humour and pathos. On seeing pictures of the old man you might wonder about the design and artwork but don't, the facial designs used enable a much finer set of expressions to be incorporated the ...

Advantages: Fantastic look back at Fred Dibnah's life Disadvantages: None
...Fred Dibnah. Man of steam. Getting steamed Up is a very popular Fred Dibnah DVD. I heard someone say: "When they made Fred Dinah, they broke the mould." That's a nice thing to say, a good compliment, really, but it is not quite true. For Fred's sons are equally as passionate able steam preservation as their late father. But that's slightly off the point, here, so on with the review.
This DVD shows many aspects of Fred's life. His fascination with chimneys, his love of steam and also his love of historical building and a stirring belief that we must preserve our industrial heritage for our own and future generations.
Watching Fred swap tales of steam engines and of steeplejacking and jokes with his equally steam mad friends whilst supping ale at what the DVD bills as "the world's largest steam rally" at The Dorset Steam Fair is...
