This film is the darkest screwball comedy feature full of wit and charm. The film is called Unfaithfully Yours. The plot has a symphony conductor named Alfred de Carter(Rex Harrison) who thinks his wife Daphne(Linda Darnell) is having an affair.
At one of his concerts, Alfred plans several ways to test her trust with each musiccal piece, even using murder. The film contained classical music with comedy and a somewhat story line. Director Preston Sturges' fine script becomes alive and the actors are lively and well placed, bringing out the physical and verbal humor in this film.
Unfaithfully Yours was unsuccessful in its release but it was well recieved by critics and movie buffs. It certainly ended Sturges' Hollywood career but he would work in film for another ten years. The dialouge in Unfaithfully Yours is snappy and the film relies on plenty of physical comedy.
Unfaithfully Yours was remade in 1984 with Dudley Moore. But try to see the 1948 and 1984 versions of Unfaithfully Yours on video or DVD or look for it on television and enjoy this classic comedy film.
