The all new Ultimate Fighting Championship was under new management and just getting bigger and more mainstream with each event to the point where it is now getting bigger crowds than boxing and is mainstream tv in america.
UFC lets fighters use all the skill from every martial art, boxing, kicking, wrestling, throws, submissions. There are 5 weight divisions and all the action takes place in the OCTAGON, 3x5 minute bouts with title fights 5x5. 5 fights in total are here.
UFC throw down was held in the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. 2 belts are on the line, the first a middleweight bout with Dave Menne (champion) vs Brazilian Jiu Jitsu legend Murilo Bustamante. Not a great fight but entertaining enough.
Russian Andrei Semenov takes on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu stand out Ricardo Almeida, this fight is a good encounter.
Ricco Rodriguez is in a pretty onesided affair here against Jeff Monson. Rodriguez was being groomed by the UFC management to become heavyweight champion, which he did, then soon lost it, and became more interested in expanding his gut soon after.
Also you'll see Chuck (The Ice Man) Liddell vs Amar Suloev. Liddell would become champ eventually and is now one of the most famous faces in america.
Main event see's Lightweight champion Jens (little evil) Pulver vs BJ Penn. This is a good show case of all the skills a fighter needs to gain top level in the UFC. Both fighters show boxing skill, wrestling and good ground and submission ability.
