Ultimate Avengers is the story of the creation of one of Marvel comics longest running and most successful superhero teams. It is though based on the "Ultimate" comic line so has been modernised slightly from the original version to bring it more up to date. Most viewers including my children wouldn't notice but older viewers like myself may spot these slight distractions with the benefit of the nostalgia of childhood comic reading.
The plot explores the history of World War 2 hero Captain America his rescue from suspended animation and recruitmant to lead a mixed bag of heroes, Iron Man the inventor of a high powered battle suit, Thor is he really the Norse god of thunder? The Wasp and Giant Man a married couple with the power to change size and The Hulk whose uncontrollable rages may prove to be a bigger challenge than the foe they are recruited to fight.
All in all an entertaining movie that gave my children a fix of superhero action while their waiting for the next spiderman movie and enough character development to engage without distracting from the film. It would have benefitted from a proper Supervillain to challenge the team as well as the alien invaders storyline however perhaps that will be addressed in the next movie.
With the glut of live action superhero movies over the last few years with still more to come boasting such superb special effects that anything seems possible the production of an animated superhero movie may seem a backward step. However don't be put off by this without the long history of comic books there wouldn't have been the recent spate of superhero blockbusters and this animated version of perhaps the most successful superhero team comic ever lets the heroes be displayed as visualised by the artists rather than the casting agent.

I reviewed the Directors cut of Superman 2 and the Kingdom Come graphic novel. This seems to be popular as my local HMV had sold out of this, The new Iron Mna DVD has just been relased as well. One for the wishlist on Amazon, me thinks.
