DVD Description
This is the story of the strategies and tactics employed by the Allies to inflict damage on the German U-Boats (often referred to as 'Iron Coffins').
...Das Boot is one of the most emotionally involving movies I have ever seen. The characters are developed richly, without those awkward moments in movies when you realize that the director is doing so. You sympathize with the crew, and FEEL their plight as they struggle, cramped in a rickety U-boat against the odds. At times the movie grows slow and drawn out, but that is intentional- to make you feel like you are trapped in an underwater coffin with nothing to do, no where to go. Advantages: Fun Disadvantages: Credits the Americans with English victories
...This film is excellent. When going to see this do not expect an historically correct account of the u-boatwar. But that is not the point of the film. The point is that it is a fun movie. It has tension, comic relief and action. It is not realistic but that adds to the flava of it all. Even history freaks will enjoy this.

The plot is standard boys-own fare - brave American Navy men take on nasty Nazis in their U-boats during the 2nd World War. From a weak beginning the film soon develops into an extremely tense action movie, with competent acting from the leads and some impressive special effects. I found some scenes pretty nerve-shredding but overall the viewing experience was pretty empty. It's a film you can find very enjoyable if you are prepared to suspend your disbelief to a large degree. It's historically innaccurate, so if that sort of thing bothers you - avoid....
