Mexico City was directed by David Mallet and first released on video the following year; this is the first time it has been released on DVD. Described as a sci-fi disco supermarket the PopMart Tour opened in its 'spiritual home' Las Vegas on 25th April 1997. All trash and kitsch PopMart introduced a giant mirrorball lemon a 100ft cocktail stick - complete with olive and the works of Lichenstein Warhol and Haring to a live rock audience: a production experience never quite seen before. Originally filmed on analogue video the film has been transferred to a digital format with re-graded and cleaned pictures. Great care has been taken to maintain the original look by simply enhancing it with an added degree of sharpness and contrast unavailable when originally filmed. The audio has also been re-mastered and mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound. Tracklist: 1. Pop Muzik 2. Mofo 3. I Will Follow 4. Gone 5. Even Better Than The Real Thing 6. Last Night On Earth 7. Until The End of The World 8. New Year's Day 9. Pride (In The Name Of Love) 10. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For 11. All I Want Is You / Desire 12. Staring At The Sun 13. Sunday Bloody Sunday 14. Bullet The Blue Sky 15. Please 16. Where The Streets Have No Name 17. Lemon (Perfecto Mix) 18. Discoth'Ĭque 19. If You Wear That Velvet Dress 20. With Or Without You 21. Plot: Since becoming wildly popular in the 1980s, Irish band U2's sound has grown from a raw, soulful rock to a more electronica-tinged, experimental brand of pop. In line with this, U2's stage act has grown into a showcase of lavish special effects, cutting-edge sound, and spectacular multimedia enhancement. POPMART features Bono and the band performing live in Mexico City in support of their 1997 album, POP. Performing 24 old and new tracks, U2 puts on a concert that is a stunning spectacle.

...If you think U2's just about 'Vertigo' and 'Beautiful Day', buy this. Visually and sonically, this DVD is stunning. For a start, the stage set is overblown and ridiculous - a forty-foot lemon, a huge McDonald's-style arch, and so on - but the music is more than big enough to take it on, especially given the huge improvement in the remastered sound.
Let me take a quick tour round some of the highlights. The opener, Mofo, will blow your mind if you've not heard this sort of thing fromU2 before - in fact, even if you have, the MexicoCityversion is arguably one of the best. A totally stripped-down Sunday Bloody Sunday solo by The Edge is just one example of the reinvention that the warhorses of the U2 setlist have undergone. 'One' is one of the best performances of that song ever, and the combination of Please followed by Streets is...

Advantages: Fantastic quality live show. Disadvantages: Could feature more insight.
...2006: There's a chill in the air, the leaves are on the ground and the stores already have holiday music playing. All of this can mean only thing—a new U2 product has hit the shelves.
U2, no doubt having great success with the multiple versions of 2004's release of "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," have released two versions of the companion liveDVD. The regular edition comes packaged with only the concert DVD while the deluxeversion includes a second disc with the "Beyond the Tour" documentary, show designer Willie Williams's surveillance cuts and an alternate version of "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" by Phil Joanou. I wish, however, that there had been a supreme deluxeversion that had the members of U2 sitting down for a candid interview about the tour. Perhaps next time guys?
The extras on the bonus disc are...

...baby" and "Zooropa".
From 1990 to 2000, U2 made 5 original albums ("Achtung Baby" [1991]; "Zooropa" [1993]; "Passengers" [1995]; "Pop" [1997]; "All that you can't leave behind" [2000]).There are two best of U2 divided into two periods : 1980-1990 & 1990-2000 and songs which do not appear on U2 albums but on films soundtrack.
If you compare the CD and the DVD, you'll note that there are more videos on this DVD, that's why I find it definitely more interesting. The main difference is that on the CD, you'll find the song "The first time" (which first appeared on "Zooropa") and as for the limitededition, a number of b-sides and remixes whereas they are not on the DVD.
To be honest, I don't remember exactly when I bought this DVD and how much it was. I remember that a friend had lent me hers but I definitely wanted mine. So, I found it...
