for Elevation, which accompanied their All That You Can't Leave Behind album. Just as the album marked a return to a simpler more stripped-down sound, so the live shows did away with the glitter-ball lemons and huge stadiums, returning to smaller venues and all-together more intimate shows. From the small stage with its heart-shaped walkway, and a minimum of special effects, the emphasis is on the music, and from start to finish Elevation provides a welcome reminder of what a great band U2 are. Recorded in Boston, the show features a healthy mixture of new and old tracks, which--considering they were written over the course of two decades--sound as fresh and relevant as ever. From classics such as "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "I Will Follow" right up to instant favourites such as "Beautiful Day" and "Elevation", every track is stunningly executed. If you saw the concerts, this is a worthy lasting souvenir, if you didn't, watch this recording and you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't go. On the DVD: With the full concert on the first disc, the second one contains a wealth of superb extras. For starters there's the "Another Perspective", which enables you to watch the concert from alternative points of view--the "Fancam" (from the heart of the crowd ensconced within the heart-shaped walkway) and the "Directorcam" (from the production office where director Hamish Hamilton creates his masterpiece). There's also a Road Movie, which gives a time-lapse photography look behind the scenes of a day on the road, and an insight into how to turn an empty, cold impersonal indoor arena into an intimate, spectacular concert venue. It also includes some alternative live takes of some of the key tracks from the album, including a fantastic performance of "Beautiful Day" from the rooftops of Dublin. With the concert offered in a choice of sound ratios (Dolby 5.1, PCM Stereo) the songs sound even greater. As concert DVDs go, Elevation is a definite benchmark. --Helen Marquis

They Just Get Better Review ofU2 - Elevation 2001 - Live In Boston DVDby
sheffwed
Advantages: You get to watch this amazing gig over and over and over and over....think you get the message!! Disadvantages: Not really a big one, but price is quite expensive
...concert live from Boston where U2 seem to be as good all these years on as they were back in the ealry days as they belt out a mixture of not only the songs from the last album (All that you can't leave behind) but all the older classic favourites too. The stage is not quite as spectacular as some of the other U2 live performances, but the big heart shape around the stage still gives old Bono plenty of room to do his thing.
The songs on disc 1-
... ...are belted out with typical U2 passion and soul from all of the band and especially Bono who must be close to boiling point running around in his trademark big leather coat and glasses.
The second disc offers a another perspective of the concert with alternate angles from either the fancam or the directorcam.
A road movie, which shows a camera speeded up of the whole event being set up! (and boy does it make you tired sat back watching all that ...

U2 Elevation 2001 tour Live From Boston Limited edition double DVD
Price 24.99 for a 2 Disc set
I wouldn’t really say I was a massive U2 fan, I like the greatest hits C.D but I don’t own any of the regular Albums so I don’t know what attracted me to this DVD. The DVDs come in an expensive looking card box with the obligatory pull out / fold out inner bit and there is also a booklet to flick through. All in all a nicely put together ... ...and thankfully it’s superb with U2 delivering a raw and honest performance (forget all the Pop Mart bollocks, this is them on a stage playing some fantastic tunes) spanning 20 years worth of material.
The old classics are there the new stuff’s there and in between they throw in a couple of less obvious (but by no means dull) songs.
It is all captured on film in an edgy raw kind of fashion and complements what is happening on the stage ...

U2 can rock !!! Review ofU2 - Elevation 2001 - Live In Boston DVDby
ladyboymondaytofriday
Advantages: Great songs, great vocals, awesome performance, classic U2 Disadvantages: ----------- Are you mad? -------------
...access must have heard of U2 at some stage be it via their multi-million selling albums, the limited edition i-pods or Bono's endless work for the potless in Africa so I won't go into an indepth analysis of who the group are or of their achievements over the 20 odd years they have been performing. Needless to say, they are global superstars and put on quite possibly the greatest shows of our time.
The DVD cost me £15.99 from HMV last year and it ... ...On
I can't really say much more than go out and buy this for your collection. If you are a U2 fan you will probably already own this. If you aren't a great fan of U2, take a chance, I assure you that you will not curse your purchase. ...

Re-live the magic Review ofU2 - Elevation 2001 - Live In Boston DVDby

Advantages: Brings back memories of a great tour Disadvantages: none
...a good mix from all U2 albums and hear the great live set from the Album that inspired the tour All That you can't Leave behind. Listen to Beautiful Day; Elevation; Walk On they way they were meant to be heard - LIVE..
The opening song Elevation just sets it up for a great show, however have to say the DVD does dull the atomosphere and the rush you felt from actually being there. This is a must for all U2 fans and a couple of years on from its general ...

Advantages: A trully amazing DVD a must for all fans or might-be fans. Disadvantages: A little bit of repetition and the menu system is a bit cumbersome.
Having just purchased a DVD player this was my first DVD and what an introduction!
I trully amazing double DVD featuring live foootage from the Elevation Tour and lots of behind the scenes stuff. I see other reviewers have given the full listing etc so I won't bore you with a repeat.
I was fortunate to pick it up for £14.99 which was exceptional value for money.
What really got me was the sound quality as the band produced song after song of perfection. ... ...and ready Live albums.
A good mix of songs, leaning obviously to the newer stuff which is fine, even for fans like myself who went a bit cool on them over the last 10 years. Their latest batch is perfectly suited to the live stage and fits in well with the older stuff.
Need i say more?... I have no hesitation in reccommending this DVD ...

One of the most famous rock bands in the world, Ireland's U2 have refused to accept their incredible success with complacency and laziness. Rather than stagnating and continuing to pump out songs based on a formula that has proven amazingly popular, the band continue to grow and innovate, taking a particular interest in the possibilities of technology. ELEVATION is a concert film which captures Bono and the boys live in Boston in 2001. Directed by Hamish Hamilton with 20 cameras, the film is an interactive experience which lets the viewer dictate different perspectives and angles of viewing. U2 perform 19 of their best tunes, including "I Will Follow," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "Until the End of the World," and "Beautiful Day."
