- - - Plot - - - Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) is a hippy-chick enviromentalist with a Harvard Law Degree. The film starts off with her trying and failing to prevent a building being demolished. George Wade (Hugh Grant) is the high-class business man behind the demolishions, and after a series of unsuitable councillors who he has only hired because he fancies them, George is told to hire a proper attorney to get him a divorce. When Lucy discovers he is about to knock down her beloved community centre she approaches George with a plan to conserve it, but when he discovers she is a qualified lawyer, he makes her a deal - if she comes to work for him, he'll save the community centre. Deciding she'd have a better chance of saving the world from inside his coporation, she agrees. Within months she finds herself choosing stationary, ties, mattresses and belts for George. Four months after that he is phoning her at 2.15am in the morning for a chat. Two months later, when he calls her out of her best friend's wedding to help him choose a suit, Lucy's finally had enough. She quits the job, but George isn't going to let her go that easily. When she tries to find another job she discovers that George has called every company in New York City and deemed her 'unemployable'. After trying to deliberately get herself fired, George reluctantly agrees that he'll let her go as soon as she's found a replacement. When George takes a liking to one of the potential new replacments and hires her on the spot, Lucy starts feeling a bit put-out and starts thinking that she's going to miss George after all...
- - - My Opinion - - - This one hardly rockets to the top of my favourites list but I enjoyed it all the same. It's not the funniest film I've seen but there were some hilarious moments when I found myself curling up with laughter. My favourite scenes are probably when George calls Lucy at 2.15am in the morning for a chat, and when he calls her out of her best friend's wedding to help him pick out a suit! I like the way Lucy eats too much, especially when they're stuck in a traffic jam and she has to use the toilet! The plot is an interesting idea, although predictable, but aren't they all? At least this one has a good dialogue and some snappy one-liners going for it! If you like your sweet and fluffy chick flicks that don't require a brain to sit down and watch, then like me, you'll love this.
As for the casting, well, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant are a very, very odd pairing for the lead couple, but surprisingly, they work. Their humour sparks off each other well, and somehow the romance element is believeable too. I'm a big fan of Sandra Bullock, While You Were Sleeping is one of my favourites, and I generally love all her movies. Hugh Grant on the other hand, I detest. He seems like he can only ever act one role - the posh, upper class English prat! I avoid his films at all costs, but I had to watch this one because I thought Sandra Bullock and Dana Ivey might just make up for his presence in the movie. George Wade is completely dislikeable as the stuck up, incompetent, unable to make a decision for himself business man who hires people just so he can sleep with them. His transformation into 'caring gentleman' towards the end of the film is ridculous, as you never get the impression he actually loves Lucy. Why? Because he's one of these characters that can never love anybody as much as he loves himself! Sandra Bullock is good as usual. I like her because she can seemingly 'fit' into any role. I mean, just look at the diversity of roles she's played over the years, from a cop in Murder By Numbers, a beauty queen (Miss Congeniality), a 'free spirit' (Forces Of Nature), a witch (Practical Magic), to a bus driver (Speed). Why does she always play characters named Lucy though?
The soundtrack is another big pro for this movie, featuring one of my favourite songs - Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows, along with Respect by Aretha Franklin, Magic Moments by Perry Como, Papa's Got A Brand New Bag by James Brown, The Look Of Love by Dusty Springfield, Where Is The Love? by Roberta Flack, and Baby, You've Got What It Takes by Dinah Washington. The soundtrack works well with the film, and you'll probably recognise alot of the songs from TV commercials.
- - - Quotes - - - Lucy: You are the most selfish human being on the planet. George: Well, that's just silly. Have you met everyone on the planet?
Tony: She looks so peaceful when she's sleeping... Like a doll. (Lucy Snores) George: A doll with a sinus problem.
George: I'm now poor. When I say I'm poor, I mean we may have to share a helicopter with another family.
George: Divorce always gives me an appetite. Kebab? Lucy: No thanks. I've never really warmed to the idea of a flesh popsicle!
Lucy: You said it was an emergency, and I didn't I memo you over what constitutes an emergency? George: Yes. Large meteor, severe loss of blood, and... What was the third one again? Lucy: Death! And you're not dead! Just like you weren't dead when you called me at 3 O'Clock in the morning because you had a nightmare about becoming the fifth member of Kiss. Just like you weren't dead when you barged in on my 'womens doctor' appointment to ask me which photograph to put on the cover of People! George: Well, if it's any consolation I will be dead, eventually.

As always, I start with another comment...
"...a very enjoyable romantic comedy..."
The Mail On Sunday
"The leads spark off each other beautifully..."

Now I have to say I agree with these comments totally. I found this film on VHS format in HMV for only £4.99, when the normal price for this would be about £13.99. Advantages: Sandra Bullock Disadvantages: Hugh Grant
I blame my mom for picking this one up. I remember it so clearly as if it was yesterday. She was in HMV picking 3 DVDs, she was looking for a third, and found this one, so she read the back and thought it sounded good, only didn't bother showing me. So when we got home and found out that nothing on TV was on we put this into our DVD Player and I automatically recognised this one, and a second after we both felt like we wasted our money, not in a ... ...TV, so it was incredibly stupid of my mom to pick it up and not noticed, however this is one of those films I could watch repetitively!
The director of this film is Marc Lawrence, he isn't known by many people at all and have only directed this film and "Music and Lyrics" both films are good, but I feel that he isn't brilliant at his job, though saying that, he also writes for films and produces them so I cannot say such a thing
The cast list is ...

...romantic comedies. So on paper, Two Weeks’ Notice ticked all the boxes. It sounded exactly my kind of film and I was looking forward to seeing it at last.
PLOT
The basic plot is that Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) is a lawyer who has graduated from Harvard. She is feisty, intelligent and principled. She protests against the destruction of local buildings, relying on her sympathetic parents to bale her out. When she begins working for the Wade ... ...Lucy to resign, giving him two weeks’ notice. But is that the end of the story or just the beginning of a new chapter?
OPINION
Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock are the obvious stars of this film, with all other characters rescinding behind their star quality. Fans of British TV might recognise David Haig though (The Thin Blue Line) who plays George’s brother, Howard.
While Hugh and Sandra do have a chemistry on film, it barely compares ...

...to be a good thing! Two Weeks Notice was a film I really wanted to see, as I love Hugh Grant (I know, I know, but there's just something about him!) and when I bought this, my boyfriend at the time had a bit of a thing for Sandra Bullock (Apparently she has a sexy voice) and so I thought this would be a great way of persuading him to watch a chick flick!

Advantages: Relatively good continuity, okay cast Disadvantages: Some flaws, bad script, not as good as the first
of the time they are on the Barbie Gracie and at other times they are the 'undercover' outfits. The character of Ida (a senile old Jew played by Sandra/Gracie) is fantastic and provides one of the more memorable (and funny) scenes, as are the show girl out fits which Sandra and Regina have to don.
There are a few really good soundtrack choices - such as a called Black Betty, input from Pink and Natasha Bedingfield, and a great Tina Turner number. The rest is pretty blasé and not noticed. Some of the tracks are also borrowed from other Sandra Bullock movies, especially the TwoWeeksNotice score by John Powell.
The DVD 'special features' are a joke! There seriously was no point in putting a bonus feature option in the menu. The bonus feature on the disk is?.. The trailer.

It's worth a watch, but don't go dashing out to buy ...
Advantages: Funny, Brilliant Performance From Reese, Visually A Treat Disadvantages: Formulaic, By The Numbers, Nothing New To Offer
, funny and nice watch. Reese Witherspoon is stunning, and it?s a treat for the eyes, but don?t watch it expecting it to be a statement of our time, it to change your opinions or beliefs or be controversial, because it?s all just one big gooey mess, that is a good watch. Aimee, I have to say liked it A LOT more than me, so maybe I am just a cynical, old grouch.
Financially it was more than a sound financial investment. It only cost 30 million to make, but worldwide it gathered the grand total of 181 million making it 9th most successful romantic comedy ever and the biggest Rom Com of 2002 beating TwoweeksNotice and Maid In Manhattan.

DVD Description
Opposites attract in the directorial debut of screenwriter Marc Lawrence. Determined activist, lawyer, and idealist Lucy Kelson (Sandra Bullock) has a noble reason for accepting a top position at Wade Realty Corporation. By taking the job, she can save the beloved community center in her Coney Island neighborhood. Along with the job comes the position of personal advisor to her high-maintenance boss, George Wade (Hugh Grant). As the two work together, down-to-earth Lucy becomes utterly indispensable to millionaire playboy George, so much so that he seeks her advice on everything from stationery selection to his divorce settlement to what suit he should wear. When Lucy gives her two weeks notice and realizes that her potential replacement, June Carter (Alicia Witt), has some strong chemistry with George, she has to acknowledge her own romantic feelings for her boss. Likewise, faced with losing the person he relies upon most, George is forced to do some soul searching of his own. Grant is well-cast as freewheeling George, delivering his lines with subtlety and making a potentially irritating character likable and charming. TWO WEEKS NOTICE also stars Dana Ivey and Robert Klein as Lucy's parents.
