Seeing as I've been watching an awful lot of this show, thanks to Paramount Comedy 1 playing all episodes of this show in a long weekend marathon, I thought I might as well give it a go, reviewing the show and the series (or, as they say in the US, season) that I watched the most, is the first one, so lets have a go...
- Whats the premise of the show? -
Two and a Half Men is all about two brothers, Alan and Charlie harper (they being the two men) and Alans son, Jake (him being half way to being a man I guess lol at 10 years old, at the start of this show), who often stays over at their beach house in California, as Alan shares custody with his ex-wife, who often arrives to pick him up and finds some proposterous situation ensuing!. Charlie and Alan are quite different, personality wise and so on, despite being brothers and so Jake learns different things from each of them, through varying situations they find themselves in.
- Who are the main characters? -
Alan - played by Jon Cryer, Alan Harper is a successful chiropracter, who can be a bit of a neat freak and who is quite sensitive and tries to teach Jake more moral things, or at least he tries not to be in Jakes hearing range, when discussing sex or relationships. Alan is somewhat of a control freak and is often seen battling with his ex-wife, Judith (played by Marin Hinkle).
Charlie - played by Charlie Sheen, Charlie Harper plays the piano and although he didn't manage to become a successful musician, he instead creates and sells jingles for TV ads and so on. Moreso, he dates...alot! or more, has alot of sex, he's the kind of guy that has probably been with every woman in California at one point or another! and he's not afraid to discuss things at times. However, being in his late 30s, some of the situations he gets into, leaves him worse for wear. Charlie, as Jakes uncle, tries to teach Jake about the basics of relationships and later in the series about gambling and other such things, he's the bad influence!
Jake - played by Angus T. Jones, Jake Harper is a rather chubby little 10 year old kid, as I said already he's Alan's son and often stays over, when he isn't staying with his mum, Judith. Jake is quite a lazy guy, though he can be witty at times. There are often very awkward situations, when he overhears things and asks what they mean and that sort of thing. I think Jake is a good character, as he knows more than you'd think at first and he often embarrasses his father and uncle, so while you'd think they have the upper hand, they often dont!
Evelyn - Played by Holland Taylor. Evelyn Harper is Alan and Charlies mother and is one of the few things the brothers share in common, that being their dislike of her! She is fairly snobbish and tries to impress her grandson, Jake. Alan and Charlie feel like she snubbed them when they were younger, so at points they try not to let the same thing happen with Jake.
Berta - played by Conchata Ferrell, Berta is the Harpers' maid. She is rather *ahem* large and is also quite vocal and won't worry about making her opinion be known about what goes on in the Harper household, put it that way! some of what she says is quite amusing
Rose - Played by Melanie Lynskey, Rose is a neighbour that stalks Charlie and becomes a close friend. She is equally silly and kind of creepy, she's like a grown up kid, age wise only she never grew up! kind of like the brothers I suppose, only even more so! She often suddenly appears, climbing onto the porch at the back of the house and she has a bit of a high pitched voice. She is quite an endearing character, despite seeming to be minus a few marbles!
- Is it any good? -
In a word, yes! I think this is a show that you have to watch to fully understand where the humour lies. Reading the description of the characters above, you may think this sounds like a rather predictable and boring or stupid comedy but it does have some pretty funny moments. Some episodes are funnier than others but in general, it is a very funny show. The fact that I've watched quite a few hours of this show over the last few days proves that, if the comedy wasn't there or all the episodes showcased the same sort of tired out material, then I would easily have stopped watching some hours ago but I keep it on because it does regularly have laugh out loud moments.

- What extras are there -
According to online retailers absolutely none, which sucks, considering the episodes are shown on cable TV often and you could watch them free of charge... you'd hope to get at least a gag reel/outtakes, maybe one or two deleted scenes and some kind of commentary but nope, only the episodes are on the DVDs, so thats a disappointment.
Due to the lack of any special features or extras, I'm rating value for money as poor. Most people who buy boxsets buy them because they really enjoy the show and have already seen the episodes but want to have something else, something new to make having paid the cost of it worth it, considering, as I say below, you could simply tape the episodes onto blank DVDs. I don't feel the company really makes it that appealing to buy the official releases if they don't offer any extras!
- Is the DVD box set worth buying? -
Well, the first series has been shown quite alot, on channels such as Paramount Comedy 1. If you are new to the show, haven't seen it before and have cable, I'd suggest you try and catch it on Paramount Comedy 1, their currently showing new episodes from the latest series (5?) on Monday night at 9pm, if thats of interest. You can save yourself around £18 (the current average price of the series 1 boxset, from what I see online), if you have a DVD recorder by simply recording the episodes, if they do another similar marathon of the shows episodes on Paramount Comedy... though if you want a quicker way to get all the episodes to watch when you want, you can probably pick up the boxset cheaper second hand on Ebay or Amazon Marketplace.
To make it clear, I'm recommending it, as in to say I recommend that people watch the show but I don't overly recommend purchasing the DVD boxset, certainly not at full price as I feel it really suffers for not having any extras but I didn't want to say I don't recommend it, as if to say the show is no good as thats simply not true. I'm giving it 4 out of 5, star rating wise, to reflect the fact that the show is really good but the boxset, not so great, due to the lack of extras.
I hope this review was helpful to you and as always, thanks for reading!
Advantages: Often good physical comedy as well as snappy dialogue with lots of laughs Disadvantages: Charlie Sheen can grate after a while, predictable at times
WHAT IS IT: Two and a Half Men is an American sitcom which has been awarded Emmys and Golden Globes. It is frequently shown on the Paramount comedy channels. It is based in the home of Charlie Harper, a playboy bachelor who has made his fortune writing jingles for adverts. His wild lifestyle is interrupted when his brother Alan, a chiropractor who ironically is pretty spineless, gets divorced and he and his son Jake have no choice but to move in ... ...man-eating, gin-soaked mother Evelyn and do their best to avoid her. They are also frequently visited by Charlie's well-meaning stalker Rose, who has never really got over the one night of passion she shared with Charlie. Trying to keep Charlie in line is world-weary housekeeper Berta who is constantly amused by the ridiculous situations Charlie's drinking and libido get him into GOOD POINTS: The jokes come thick and fast in this show and the dialogue ...

Advantages: Comedy show that doesn't go over the top on the silliness Disadvantages: Can sometimes be predictable but is still funny
...is about it. Apart from two and a half men, It has to be said I watch the show over and over again, doesn't matter how many times I see it, it is still funny, my boyfriend says he loves to watch me watch it as I laugh so much. I have recently purchased the first season and although I am finding the that each season is getting funnier and funnier. On occasions the jokes do tend to repeat and sometimes you know what is going to happen before it happens ... ...anyone thinking about giving this season a go that they should it is a really good way to get addicted . I wouldn’t suggest paying full price because as I said season 2 is funnier but defiantly worth watching.

Advantages: Hilaruois plot Disadvantages: Can Be too Rude =P
Two and a half men is about two brothers, Alan and Charlie Harper. They are both very different personlatiy wise. For example Charlie writes jingles for a living, earns huge amounts of money for doing basically nothing and is a real hit with the women. Charlie is a great success.

Alan is kicked out of his house, and stays at his brothers house in malibu. Charlies lifestyle is afflicted by these new arrangements because Alans son jake stays at his uncles house every weekend. The Brothers are always doing something wacky and adventurous together, with hilarious results. I would recommend this ...
