hot off another scorcher hit (Speed)--that flaunted state-of-the-art digital effects and featured a popular leading actress (Helen Hunt) who would win an Academy Award for her next film (As Good As It Gets). But ask anybody who's seen it and they'll tell you who the real star ofTwisteris: the cow. Not to give anything away, but the cow is one of those inspired little touches (like, say, Bronson Pinchot's career-making cameo inBeverly Hills Cop) that adds a touch of personality to a gigantic Hollywood production. The story is blown out the window after an impressive prologue in which Hunt's character, as a little girl, witnesses her daddy being sucked into a tornado. Basically, Hunt and Bill Paxton are thrill-seeking meteorologists chasing twisters in order to study them (and help warn people of them, of course) with a new technology they've developed. If you thought the Kansas tornado inThe Wizard of Ozwas every bit as scary as the Wicked Witch of the West, then this may be the movie for you.--Jim Emerson

When he finally catches up with Jo, and her team of tornado chasers, he finds them in the midst of some serious storm action in Oklahoma. The bug soon bites, and Bill and Melissa soon find themselves tagging along with the tornado chasers, tracking the tornados in the hope that they can release a ground-breaking scientific device into the centre of one, to gain never seen before data.
What can you say about Twister, it was a summer blockbuster back in 1996, it has some great action scenes, some brilliant special effects, but the story line is weak, it's unbelievable and has too much Hollywood cheese about it. So without in mind, it is quite surprising that I like it, but what it is, is a bit of Hollywood fun, which doesn't mentally challenge you, or offend you. It doesn't matter that it is factually incorrect, and the dialogue is full of clichés, or that the plot is so weak that it wouldn't stand up to a breeze let alone a tornado. What appeals is for 113 minutes you go on an effects ridden adventure, where there are no evil villains, or nasty corporations to battle against, just the power of Mother Nature. If you really must have a plot, then there is the story of 2 people falling in love again, but this really plays second fiddle to the action.
In the lead role of Bill Harding is Bill Paxton (True Lies) although provides a reasonable performance, his lines are so full of cliché's that it makes you cringe. I doubt anyone would be able to deliver those sort of lines with real meaning. Opposite Paxton is Helen Hunt (What Women Want) as Dr. Jo Harding, Bill's current wife. Although I really like Helen Hunt, she is just not convincing as a storm chaser, she's too nice, it just doesn't work. It doesn't help that her lines are just as bad as Paxton's. The supporting cast doesn't fare much better, as no one has a really decent dialogue to speak off, the only one who really makes any impression is Philip Seymour Hoffman (Along Came Polly) as Dusty, one of the storm chasers who is basically on another planet and with it, reasonably funny. Within the supporting cast you have some reasonable Hollywood names such as Jami Gertz (The Lost Boys), Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and Joey Slotnick (Alias, Nip/Tuck) but none of them really shine.
The film is directed by Jan de Bont and came directly after he delivered the equally action packed movie Speed. As an action movie de Bont has done a very good job, but as a thriller or a drama, it is pretty pants. The story was actually written by Michael Crichton and his wife, so it is quite surprising that the storyline came over so badly, maybe Mr. de Bont had something to do with this and a certain Joss Whedon who rewrote the script. The saving feature of this film is definitely the action sequences and special effects. How they created the tornado sequences, I do not know (probably tons of CGI), but they do look pretty effective, especially flying cows. Something you should be aware of with this film, is that the continuity is terrible, one of the worst bits is where you see them driving down a single lane dirt track, but in the next shot from inside the vehicle, you can clearly see that they are on a main road and cars are traveling past them in the opposite direction.= The Cast =======Helen Hunt .... Dr. Jo Harding Bill Paxton .... Bill Harding Jami Gertz .... Dr. Melissa Reeves Philip Seymour Hoffman .... Dustin Davis Alan Ruck .... Robert 'Rabbit' Nurick Sean Whalen .... Meg Greene======= Technical Details =============Certificate: PG Length: 113 mins======================= The Message & Christian View Point =============================Don't mess with Mother Nature. To be honest there is no message in this film, but it does show how destructive Mother Nature can be.========== Conclusion & Rating ================So there you have it, Twister, and as my title said, It Sucks. But for some reason I still like it, probably because it is a bit of harmless escapism, full of action and special effects. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone to actually buy, but if you stumbled across it in blockbusters then it would be worth a watch. If you really want a decent action movie which goes up against Mother Nature, then I would suggest The Day After Tomorrow, but if you really want to buy Twister, then its available on Amazon for £4.97, but remember, I have warned you.
...a movie as to whether Twister is going to be for you or not. If you are looking for deep convoluted plotlines, multi-faceted characters, perfect scripting and Oscar winning performances all round...then you came to the wrong place. If, on the other hand you don't care if your actors are plastic, the characters 2 dimensional, the plot...welll what plot? it doesn't exist BUT with awesome special effects which will literally blow you away(pun most definitely ... ...to ask for. Twister is one of those movies which relies almost entirely upon its special effects to draw its audience and keep them amused from start to finish. It is the same as other movies of its time such as Independence Day and Volcano, which are equally devoid of plot and yet we all had to rush out and watch. The disaster movie genre had been somewhat dead since the 70s killed it off with an endless stream of banality, yet the 90s saw its rebirth ...

Twister is a simply stunning movie from Speed director Jan De Bont. It manages to recreate one of natures most awe inspiring sights in astounding fashion. Not only that but it's a brilliant movie too!
The plot follows tornado chasers played by Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as they pursue the deadly phenomenon. The reasoning behind their madness is so that they can launch Dorothy. Dorothy being the worlds first instrument pack for studying tornados. ... ...get it in the twister damage path so that it gets sucked up into the funnel. The makes for some really interesting scenes involving getting very close to the tornados. The point of Dorothy is to make it possible to create a more advanced warning system to save lives. The acting in this film is first rate. Bill Paxton does an incredible job as "the extreme". This is the nickname used for him in the film because he takes things right to the limit. ...

...get most of our DVDs). Twister arrived on Tuesday morning so we settled down to watch it that evening. ~ A little bit about tornadoes ~
Most tornado activity is found in the USA. The air movements here are unique as three air masses meet causing lots of tornadoes to occur. The area is known as Tornado Alley. A tornado (commonly known as a twister) is a violently rotating column of air in contact with the ground that originated from the base of a ... ...into the centre of a twister so they can find out exactly what goes on inside and so that they can increase warning times, which will allow more lives to be saved. Bill is extremely pleased to see DOROTHY but is outraged to discover that Jonas Miller, a fellow storm chaser who is only in it for the money, has 'invented' a device almost identical to DOROTHY. Bill is determined to get DOROTHY into a twister before Jonas can claim credit for the idea ...

this is another great action movie with a great plot and story line. it can be hard to follow at times because for a while nothing happens and then everything happens at once! it is the story of two teams of weather people who want to be the first to use a new technological development to track the path of a twister. to do this,they have to put themselves deep into the twisters path,which needless to say leads to some dramatic scenes and great tension. ...

Advantages: special effects Disadvantages: plot/story line
Bill Harding (Bill Paxton) is trying to get a divorce from his wife Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) so he can marry his new love Dr. Melissa Reeves (Jami Gertz)sound complicated (well its the only thing in the storyline that is!). When serving her the divorce papers they get caught up in chasing Tornados trying to get close enough to one in order to use a radical device that will measure atmospherics and of techie stuff from within the heart of the Tornados.

The special effects are pretty good and you can feel the atmosphere in the Tornado sequences (turn the sound up and everything rumbles), however even though I enjoyed the film as an entertaining action movie the story is a little thin on the ground without much substance. and the acting ...

Advantages: It's good, cheesy fun Disadvantages: It's not a must-own DVD, more of a rental
before. The talking dog, Frank, takes up a temporary role as Will Smiths partner, and the smoking worm guys get their own flat, in which they can entertain women by playing Twister (you probably need to watch the DVD to find that anything other than just plain disturbing).
The new baddie is interesting, if more than a little gross in her Medusa-like moments. Arriving on Earth she takes on a new form, and for a brief moment I finally saw on screen a woman who looks just like me when wearing Victoria's Secret underwear (that's disturbing with or without seeing the film!).
MIIB answers plenty of questions for me, particularly the one about "what the hell is up with that Jonny Knoxville guy?". He plays a dim witted alien who owes more than a little to Zaphod Beeblebrox. Interesting cameos from Michael Jackson, sadly held back by Men in ...
Advantages: Good story line Disadvantages: Rubbish special effects, lacks blood and gore and the scare factor
they desperately try to find a way out, one by one they are targeted. Targeted and brutally murdered by the ghosts of the victims that were once inmates at the prison.
I don?t want to give too much away about the film. If you would like to know more then you might want to purchase or borrow the DVD.

Advantages: Good band, good music & good vids Disadvantages: Sorry, can't think of any of the top of my head
pics are really good and look great, almost like you are watching them live. You can see the passion and energy pushing through them. See all the band playing and jumping round while on stage.
The poster pics are just little posters really. Full band pics and ones with just one or two members posing, or trying to look cool. Like they need to try...
The back stage snaps are photos taken from the band, and by the band in the back stage area. Their just getting up to mischief and having fun.
~~~~~Interactive Menus~~~~~
Good menus. Just let me try to describe them.... It starts to load the main menu screen, a twister-thing blows a news-paper on to the screen. The news-paper has all the links to the live footage, the vids and all the other features of the DVD. Theirs also some music playing in the background too.
