To say that David Lynch has a unique vision as a film maker is to try and say black is an off white.

Fire Walk With Me is a prequel to that love it or hate it television series Twin Peaks. It opens a year before the discovery of Laura Palmer’s body, with the corpse of one Teresa Banks being found.
For this first section of the movie, Lynch is working in a different, lighter, key. It’s almost as if the movie is working in ciphers similar to the FBI messages which are passed in minted code. This very humorous section is a Lynch-eyed view of a wildly exaggerated America and the dialogue is short and cryptic, playing on advertising slogans, familiar slang, coffee and, of course, cherry pie. When one man is asked if he has anything to say, he replies, “I know shit from Shinola.” Twice.
So when the movie moves to the town of Twin Peaks—cue familiar road signs, dwarfs who walk backwards, the other place and theme tune ‘Falling’—it provides a strange sense of comfort. But it is not a feeling that is destined to last. Those who know the series will know the plot by now - wild child Laura is abused and subsequently murdered by her father Leland (Wise), or is it his satanic alter ego ‘Bob’?
But newcomers shouldn’t be put off. As Fire Walk With Me progresses through its lengthy 135 minutes, the story becomes less and less important ( or is that more and more impenetrable ? ). What counts here is mood and effect an that is achieved in bucket loads, he has here fashioned his most surreal movie since Eraserhead.
In Twin Peaks the TV series, Lynch spoke of the evil that lived in the woods; here he deals with the evil inherent in the self, and the message is: do be afraid of the dark.
In some ways this is one of his bravest films as he is going back to something that worked for a lot of people and twisting it even more into the wild images from his mind.
This even more than Twin Peaks will divide people into love it and hate it camps and cause endless heated arguments over its deep meanings and hidden secrets.
Me, well I love it to bits even though I haven’t a clue what is going on !
Advantages: Excellent primer for the series, dark entertainment for the uninitiated Disadvantages: Too obscure for some?
...of reality gone bad, and Twin Peaks is, to date, his magnum opus.
'Fire Walk With Me' is essentially a prequel to the 'soap opera' from hell, but is best viewed with a foreknowledge of the series. In this way, events in the movie have much darker tone, and the viewer is aware of nuances which would be missed otherwise.

It ends just as the series began, with the inevitable murder of Laura Palmer. The stage is set, and this sees Lynch delving once more into the underbelly of smalltown America; through him we are left with the uneasy impression that his view may well be the reality...
Fire Walk... is also an excellent introduction to both Lynch and the world of Twin Peaks. It acts either as a poignant afterthought at the end of an ...

Advantages: David Lynch classic Disadvantages: A bit confusing
If you never saw the tv series this might not make a great deal of sense. It is a prequel to the TV series coving the events leading up to the death of Laura Palmer (at least I think that's what her name was). It's directed by David Lynch, famous for his odd films (Lost Highway). Although a prequel, it does answer some of the questions raised by the tv series, which in my oppinion has never been matched by anything else I've ever seen in this style. ...

I like strange films, like Sci-fi ones which i have to explain to every one else when they have finished, but I have met my match with this one.
I admit to never having watched the TV series, but since this is a seperate entity, and also meant to be a prequel to the series (I gather this from the other ops) - this is no excuse.
Let's start with the central focus of the plot. As far as I can see, most of the problems and psychotic episodes experienced ... ...fact that her father has raped her every night since she was 12!
Add to this wierd dream sequences, including midgets, red curtains, angles and black and white zig-zags, and I do believe that's screwed-up by anyone's standards!
However, I recognise that many parts of the story are extremely clever, but so much of it made no sense whatsoever, that I don't think it ever will.
Watch at your own risk ...

THis film was the prequal to what has to be ( arguably ) the greatest TV series ever. The fact that most critics said it was hard to follow and completly weird was all part of its charm. But then the story was weird because it was there to explain the weirdest of stories. The tv show made a mockery of all programs that came before it, and then this fantastic film made a mockery of the entire cardboard cut out society that is Hollywood. Its just a ...

Advantages: A real challenge to the brain cells, if you're up for it! Disadvantages: Unwatchable as a stand alone feature.
?FireWalk With Me? (FWWM) was the eagerly anticipated prequel and sequel of sorts to the television series ?TwinPeaks? released in 1992. For the uninitiated: TwinPeaks was a show that took television by storm at the start of the 1990s. It followed Special Agent Dale Cooper and his attempts to solve the murder of teenager Laura Palmer. The series ran two seasons before a totally polarising finale and cancellation in 1991, the fans were hungry for more whilst the general public were left scratching their heads in puzzlement.
I was firmly in the first camp. David Lynch?s television series fired up my imagination. The mix of surreal humour, a conventional whodunnit theme and moments of buttock clenching terror was like food and drink to my fertile teenage mind. Kyle McLaughlin played Agent Dale Cooper (or ?Coop) an incredibly wholesome ...
Advantages: A horrific murder scene, answering for sure the real question on everyones lips Disadvantages: Long, badly editited and confusing
Welcome to TwinPeaks!
Set just prior to the television series TwinPeaks: FireWalk With Me sets out to explain the story of Laura Palmer. Laura appears to most to be a sweet an innocent girl in her late teens in a small community. However Laura is heavily involved in S & M, Drugs and other what could be considered as deviant behaviour.
If you have not seen the movie, but have seen the television series be prepared for a shock. Personally I loved the television series it had a blend of nice drama, humour, romance, horror, and mystery. FireWalk With Me forgets everything bar the horror and the romance. It's not filmed the way the series was, you know that the terror is there from the very first scene. Firewalk with me is very twisted indeed, and for me there were few redeeming features.
As the movie begins we see a montage ...
Director David Lynch returns to the Pacific Northwest territory that helped to change the face of television in 1990, making him a household name all across America. A predecessor to that series, FIRE WALK WITH ME recounts the final week in the life of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee), a sparkling teenager who finds herself caught up in a seedy underworld and is eventually murdered. As Laura abuses cocaine and performs sexual favors for a series of shady characters, she also must balance her day-to-day affairs, which include a best friend, Donna (Moira Kelly), an ex-boyfriend, James (James Marshall), and her parents, Leland (Ray Wise) and Sarah (Grace Zabriskie). Screenwriters Lynch and Robert Engels raise more questions than they answer, keeping the film's mystery ambiguous even by the film's conclusion. While this will most certainly appeal to die-hard fans of the series, it isn't necessary for the viewer to have any prior knowledge of the characters in order to follow the story line, for Lynch's unique vision is enough to keep audiences engaged even when they aren't able to put the pieces together. Haunting, humorous, and strange, FIRE WALK WITH ME is another work of artistry from the mind of David Lynch.
