I happen to think Tweenies are one of the best learning children's programmes on the box - you can tell it's made for CBBC - and my son has loved them for as long as I can remember. This dvd only strengthens my opinion. It is a great opportunity for quality time with your child while they learn new things - I know that many people worry about their children watching too much tv but these characters teach so much that it's a great way to introduce your kids to colours, counting and making things as well as learning respect and to think of others.
The Tweenies are 4 pre-schoolers - Bella, the oldest and sometimes bossy one, Milo, the boisterous one, Fizz, the very pink girly one and finally Jake, my favourite, who is the youngest of the Tweenies and is very lovable although naughty at times and can get upset when he can't do what the others can. I'm sure anyone with children who watches it can recognise at least a bit of one of them in their own kids. My son at the moment is very much a Jakey just now as he has just started nursery and is experiencing a lot of the activities which the Tweenies take part in. This has been a real help I feel with the adjustment into nursery. The other characters are Max and Judy who run the nursery and are always there whenever the Tweenies need them. Doodles is the old favourite pet dog belonging to Max and Izzles, a slightly newer addition, belongs to Judy.
The Tweenies have a Tweenie Clock and when the centre button is pressed it is time for a different activity - this always starts with songtime and then as the episode continues we find messy time, telly time, storytime and news time where the Tweenies get a chance to discuss what has happened to them and the things they have learned that day.
In this dvd we find out about sharing, playing hide and seek, and how practice makes perfect when learning new things. We have the favourite Big Turnip story and do the Hokey Cokey with them as well as making things and all the other usual Tweenie fun where they play tricks on Judy.
The extras are really good too with a story time Town Mouse and Country Mouse, and sing-a-long One Man Went To Mow and a dressing up game.
This dvd is just under an hour long and I've found that you can get it for around £9 but it has been combined with Song Time - another firm favourite which concentrates on songs and dances - and you can get this combined dvd for £8 from Play.com. I would highly recommend this buy as Song Time was one of the 1st videos of the Tweenies we got and we found it particularly useful in calming our son down just before bedtime when he was younger and now he loves dancing and doing all the actions with his favourite characters. The CBBC website has an excellent Tweenies site where you can also play games and hear stories. I would recommend this site also if you haven't come across Tweenies before and want to find out a bit more first. Great value all in all - Keep it up BBC
