Tweenies Party Games and Giggles
Are You Ready To Play
At the moment I seem to be going through my daughters DVD collection for reviews as there does not seem to be many reviews on childrens television DVD’s and we have brought a few bad ones so hopefully my reviews will help make your decision about whether buying these DVD’s are worth it or not.
This DVD, though, I will say now – if your child is a fan, it is well worth it.
My daughter started getting into The Tweenies a number of months ago, though Cbeebies only seemed to put them on once a day at 7am (which we do always catch as we are up between 5.30 and 6.30 usually – why do young children love this time of the morning?!). It got to the point that my daughter wanted to watch Tweenies more than once a day so as Cbeebies didn’t step up the mark and play it more (which was annoying as Tweenies are educational and great compared to many programmes on this channel which are repeated many times and are just not what you want to watch), we decided to buy our daughter a few Tweenies DVD’s.
TWEENIES
The Tweenies are four fun loving, lovable full sized characters, Milo, Bella, Fizz and Jake and alongside the two dogs, Doodles and Izzles and the two grown ups Max and Judy, they bring the children imaginative play in every episode filled with music, messy time, educational real world experiences and much more.
Each episode sets a very colorful scene with lovely backgrounds and memorable characters with a selection of great songs all of which teach the children the actions and rhythm. The Tweenie clock spins changing the scenes from a few different options which all bring the episode story to a new level. Messy time shows children how to make and do, Song time brings fantastic music and dancing, Story time sits the child down for a lovely colourful story in which often the Tweenies act out in play dressing up clothes, News time which sees some real life learning, and surprise time which brings a whole array of different and fun things for the Tweenies and your children to partake in.
The Tweenies have also
won many awards which just goes to show how great this Childrens programme is.
ANIMAL FRIENDS
This DVD has two episodes in one which is great for your money worth. The first on the disc is ‘Animal Friends’. In this episode the Tweenies meet a variety of different animals both real life animals and also within their play.
At the manin menu you can choose whether to start one DVD option or the other. On choosing Animal friends a lovely interactive Tweenie clock menu comes up to allow you to choose to play the whole DVD episode or go to a specific chapter. There are nine chapters within this part of the DVD including opening and closing credits;
Old Macdonald Had a Farm In true Tweenies style, the episode opens with a lovely sing and dance to the children’s favourite, teaching the children the actions and animal sounds. My daughter loves song time and gets up and begins dancing and copying the actions – great exercise when its pouring with rain outside!
Animal Dancers The tweenies watch a television programme of Wind in the Willows on ice and begin to make their own costumes before listening to some classical music pretending to be animals which they think go along with the music. Another great imaginative part of the DVD which saw my own daughter copying the animals and pulling on any other clothes she could find. It was due to the tweenies dressing up that I believe my daughter now loves dressing up – we will see what father Christmas brings her this year!
Farmyard Animals More singing and dancing with the Tweenies You might think by this point with all the music and singing that you may be getting bored or your child may tire out – neither happens as it is so enticing and fun to watch that both me and my daughter love it.
Starfish The Tweenies and Max go into real life to the beach to look at starfish in the rock pools and later go back to the house and within messy play make their own rock pool. My daughter loves messy play as she is already very creative and we do a lot of craft things. We haven’t made this rock pool as of yet though I am sure soon she will want to.
Wriggly Creatures Another singing and dancing section of the DVD with more actions to copy and learn
Lions and Mice Bella and Fizz act out a play based on the story for the other Tweenies. This is a lovely imaginative part of the DVD and again got my daughter dressing up. The tweenies take a story and act it out in their own fun way.
Dragons Milo goes into the fantasy world of dragons and helps a young dragon who is unwell. A lovely ending to the DVD though don’t worry, there is still the second part of the DVD to come – another hour of fun!
This part of the DVD was all that is expected from a Tweenies episode at extra length. It is full of songs and laughter with the usual learning and educational value. Both myself and my daughter loved this part of the DVD and it is also well loved by my brother and sister who are 7 and 5 years of age.
PARTY GAMES, LAUGHS AND GIGGLES
The second part of the DVD offers a few more options in the animated menu. You can do the usual select to play all or scene selection, and there are also one other option ‘Surprise time’ which covers Fizz’s birthday.
There are 12 chapters in this hour long second part of the DVD including opening and closing titles;
Hokey Cokey The usual great sing and dance song where all the Tweenies band together to help Jake with the actions – and this also helps the child learn the actions with step by step instructions in a fun and exciting way that the child does not realize they are learning.
Aladdin Pantomime dress up time where the Tweenies put on a great play. My daughter absolutely loved this part and again began pulling on dressing up clothes. It is a pantomime for children which is great.
Colours The Tweenies make some domino party games and play together helping one another learn the game. Done in a great informative way helping your child learn colours and matching.
Rhythm of the music Another great song and Dance which once again got my daughter (and myself) up and dancing.
Tweenie TV The Tweenies make their own television and they all band together to create different television shows including Max’s ventriloquist monkey which my nephew who is two doesn’t like at all, though my daughter loves this part.
Monsters The Tweenies play a musical statues type of game where the Tweenies freeze when the music stops and Milo the monster has to make them move by growling and being a ‘scary’ monster. A brilliant game though my daughter and nephew love playing this over and over again – so much for me getting the washing done!
Ugly Bug Ball The Tweenies dress up and sing and dance to the ugly bug ball song – my daughter joins in with her monkey and bunny masks which is quite funny!
Who am I? The Tweenies take turns in being blindfolded and guessing each of the Tweenies. A great part of the DVD though my daughter doesn’t really interat in this part like she does with other parts – though one part out of this many that she doesn’t is greta.
Tweenie Beat The Tweenies make their own beats and have more fun dancing around. Teaches your child rhythm.
Happy Birthday Fizz! The other option on the disc is a short birthday party which sees the Tweenies wrapping presents for Fizz and playing traditional party games. A lovely ending to the DVD.
This part of the DVD is also an hour long and everything within the content teaches the child whilst they have fun.
CHARACTERS, STORY AND LANGUAGE
The characters are over the top in a great childlike way and bring the children right into the midst of the fun and games. They are completely recognizable to the children and before long they will be wanting the soft toys of the Tweenies (as my daughter already has!).
The stories as mentioned above are very exciting, fun and informative for the child and the ;language is easy for a child to learn, with some words brought in more difficult though Max generally explains this which is good. Jake often gets his words wrong too though the rest of the Tweenies helps him out whilst helping your child out too!
PRICE
You can pick up this DVD for around £3.00 at places such as Amazon and Ebay and £3.00 for two DVD’s in one is outstanding value!
My daughter absolutely loves both parts of this DVD and I can rest in the knowledge that she is learning whilst having fun. At times I do get to do my washing or cleaning up though most of the time my daughter loves participating in the DVD features together.
The only downside (which is very minimal) is that the two parts do not play consecutively and you have to choose the next DVD option after the first has finished and my daughter is too young to do this at the moment so gets quite impatient if I have managed to get to another room to do the washing!
Would I recommend this DVD? Yes! Both you and your child will love it and you wont regret it at all!
