This film has a certificate 15; this is because of the violence throughout the film and slight nudity. I don’t think that the nudity in it is too bad, but there is a lot of violence involved in the battles so the certificate rating was acceptable. It has a running time of 163 minutes, which is ok if you like fighting but I do think that too much was crammed into this amount of time. The film itself is a tale of love and war in ancient Greece; it came to the screen in all its grandeur in the epic-scale adventure.
It is set in 1193 BC in Paris. The main thing you need to know about the film is that Prince of Troy (who was played by Orlando Bloom), fell in love with Helen, who is Queen of Sparta (played by Diane Kruger). But this beautiful woman Helen is married to King Menelaus (played by Brendan Gleeson).
While Helen isn’t really immune to Paris’ charms, this doesn’t blunt Menelaus’ fury when Paris steals her of him. Menelaus’ brother Agamemnon (played by Brian Cox), is desperate for power. He is king of the Myeenaeans, he is really desperate to try and expand his empire through Troy. He tries using Paris’ romantic slight against Menelaus as an excuse to have a war against the city.
Priam is King of Troy (played by Peter O’Toole). He orders his armies to meet Agamemnon’s forces. The armies are led by Prince Hector (played by Eric Bana). Agamemnon and Achilles (played by Brad Pitt) are allies. Achilles is a mighty unstoppable warrior, who could easily up the scales in Agamemnon’s favour.
I believe that the plot of the film was very good along with the sound track, however I do think that some improvement on scripts could have been made and there were a few errors in it. Along with a few errors when it came down to casting. People involved in the films supporting casts included Sean Bean, Julie Christie, Saffron Burrows and Rose Byrne.
The main battle and the small fight scenes are great and very well directed. There’s not too much all at once so for the people not too good with gore, but there is a little bit. In some films fights can drag on, but I think that these have been choreographed very well and they are just the right length, not too short but not too long that you get bored of watching.
Overall this film is fantastic to watch and I am sure everyone that watches it will enjoy it. The film was given a 5 star but in my personal opinion I would give it a 3 or 4 star. I enjoyed watching the film but I do not think it is one to watch hundreds of times over and over again. If you haven’t seen the film I recommend buying it, even if it’s just for one watch it is well worth your money.
