Review of ?Troy? 2 Disc Special Edition DVD The DVD I am reviewing the 2 disc special edition of the DVD. The movie was produced in 2004 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie received mediocre praise from the critics for the retelling of Homer's ?The Iliad?. The storyline is fairly loosely based on The Iliad, and Hollywood has used it's artist license to add to the tale. The Special Edition consists of the 2 discs, one being the actual movie and the other a very interesting mixture of special effect techniques used in the production, an analysis of the battle scenes, a 3D animated guide to Greek myths and a look at the design of the sets used and the comparisons between Greek temples and ruins of the time. Troy was a breath-taking film with a brilliant plot (admittedly based on a legend), amazing characters and some amazing special effects. Story The story was well written and believable, however, it is based on a historical legend and is not the work of the makers of the film, so while I liked it, I can't give anybody credit for it. The story was also refreshing in that the good guys lost, which is original. 4/5 Characters/ performances This film had an amazing set of characters portrayed by some truly gifted actors such as Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. There was a nice mix of brave, selfless heroes and some twisted villains. However, the film also impressed me in that it didn't see characters in black and white as many films do and there was good within evil and evil within good. There was also something to look ...

Review of Troy (DVD)

MYTH WITHOUT GODS

Advantages: Looks great in all aspects, entertaining
Disadvantages: Simplified, some bad casting and lines

***Please note as that as per scales located unfortunately at the very end, this is a review of JUST THE FILM!!!! Readers interested in the DVD extras and similar please look elsewhere*** I was wondering if I should write the review assuming that the knowledge of at least the skeleton of the Trojan War story is a common cultural universal amongst people who are literate (=can read and write as everybody on Ciao) and were brought up within the European cultural shadow; or should I assume no previous knowledge and risk being patronising. I have not found a clear solution and thus in the tradition of the Ciao review let me start with the bare bones of the movie's storyline as it was.
