This title needs no introduction - well shouldn't anyway! If you have never heard of Transformers, you've not lived a life worth living! If this is the case, I send you my pity and gift you my love enclosed with this review of an all-time classic. Prepare to live...again! In a world where more than meets the eye!
INTRO:
What can I say, I was eight years old when this was released and it is the type of movie that would make or break a childs heart if the movie was a letdown. Almost every child brought up in the 80s and 90s were fans of the Transformers cartoons, comics and toys. If you didn't have Transformers in your toy collection you were a social outcast doomed with no friends. Yes, this is how much this movie meant to kids growing up in this era. A very brutal marketing strategy - get the kids to pay for things using their parents money to keep them quiet. The joys of the Television marketing age.
STORYLINE:
The story is based around an epic struggle between two robot factions that travelled to earth for resources. Both factions had different ways of dealing with things - the Autobots and the Decepticons. The Autobots striving for peace
and protecting humanity against the Decepticons, who were all about control, power and everything evil, who wanted to take control of the Autobots homeplanet - Cybertron.
The movie revealed that a giant robot planet-eating lunatic, known as Unicron (Galactus undercover maybe?) had just started his crusade wrecking his way across the galaxy as the Decepticons were about to launch an attack on 'Autobot City' that would end the Autobots resistence fight and mark an important victory for the might Decepticons and their leader, Megatron.
The leader of Autobots, Optimus Prime, a true heroic general of the robot forces out to protect the universe from evil has his work cut out. He and the Autobots go up against not only Megatron and his mighty army of Decepticons, but a conflict against Unicron, which leads into an epic storyline of Good Vs Evil, twists and turns of factions that all have to deal with the new found power of the planet-muncher himself.
Who would survive this war? Without revealing too much of the plot, you will have to find out for yourself!
Great animation all-round, as the quality improved from the previous cartoons that everyone was familiar with at the time. The music was of course nothing but outstanding. What I would like to point out regarding the soundtrack is that so many people who are fans of this movie claim to dislike Heavy Metal...yet this movie contains a full line-up of quality Hard Rock and Heavy Metal tracks, which lets face it - every single person who watches the movie will love, without realising this fact.
OVERALL OPINION:
My overall opinion of the movie was big smiles and thumbs up all-round, as the movie lived up to every expectation. Kids wanted nothing but the best and this movie supplied the best and then went to add more within the epic storyline and throw in a lot of deaths, great tunes and something that kids would continue to talk about long into their adult lives as being one of the greatest movies ever made.
You get to see all your favourite Transformers in action. The Autobots such as Optimus Prime, Hot Rod, Bumblebee, Clifjumper, Jazz, Ultra Magnus, Springer, Kup, Arcee, Springer, Perceptor, Wheelie, Ironhide, Blaster, Prowl, Brawn, Wheeljack, Ratchet, Windcharger along with sub-faction the Dinobots. Being a big fan of the Decepticons I was pleased to see the likes of Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Laserbeak, Galvatron, Astrotrain, Cyclonus, Scourge, and sub-faction the Constructicons and the Insecticons.
TECHNICAL RATINGS:

Sadly there was no special features, but the movie was special enough.
PERSONAL INSIGHTS:
How I heard about the movie:
I heard about the movie from seeing a million adverts for it on the TV, in comics and in the playground at school. It was everywhere - you could not escape!
Number of times watched:
At least 50 times!
CONCLUSION:
If you're a fan it goes without saying you must own this and watch it over and over again. Everything about the movie was amazing, but what really makes the movie special other than the storyline was the great soundtrack and the famous one-line quotes, that only an 80s film could deliver
"One shall stand - one shall fall!"
Is it value for money? You can pick this up for under £10 so yes, this is value for money, but that should go without saying.
