When Ron Witwicky buys his son, Sam, a new car, the old and dusty Camaro will change their lives forever. The Camaro is actually an Autobot named Bumblebee - an alien from the planet Cybertron - who transforms into a gigantic robot. Along with the rest of the Autobots led by Optimus Prime, Bumblebee has come to Earth to save the planet from the wrath of the Decepticons, the evil robots.

Little does Sam know that his grandfather made one of the greatest discoveries in the world before he died and now Sam holds the key to which the Decepticons, led by Megatron, can rule the world with. The Autobot's job is to protect Sam and every other human as well as stopping the Decepticons from gaining control. But before they know it, Sam and his friend Mikaela, along with the US army and government, are caught in the middle of a war between the Autobots and Decepticons and they have to work together to help the Autobots prevail.

~ Cast ~
Sam Witwicky - Shia LaBeouf
Mikaela Banes - Megan Fox
Captain Lennox - Josh Duhamel
Defense Secretary John Keller - Jon Voight
Agent Simmons - John Turturro
Maggie Madsen - Rachael Taylor
Ron Witwicky - Kevin Dunn

I have only just watched this, due to the second film coming out at the cinema which I must say looks pretty amazing. Unfortunately though, I wasn't as impressed with the first film as I thought I was going to be.

The transformation of the robots from cars into the full blown giant robots was pretty amazing to watch and the CGI was brilliant. However, I just didn't like the idea of the robots being aliens for some reason - maybe I've seen too many films where they're all small ugly green things. The bigger robots were good as they actually acted like robots, whereas the small little annoying baddie robot was plain stupid and I just didn't like that it seemed to feel and act like it had human emotions. This made the film a bit silly in my eyes. The fighting scenes between the robots were also amazing, especially out in the desert and in the city centre at the end. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for a second in fear of missing something as everything was so quick-paced and there seemed to be so much going on on the screen. The only criticism I have is that I often found myself not too sure about which robots were good and which were bad - most of the good robots had colours but a couple were just black, which is the same colour as the Decepticons, so this confused me slightly.

Despite my criticisms though, the story was still very good, if a tad confusing. I had to rewind it a couple of times as I couldn't keep up with the story of exactly what Sam's grandfather had left behind and what the robots were trying to find. I do think this could have been explained a bit better, however, as I said, it was still a good story.

Shia LaBeouf was the saving grace in this film. I already liked him from Even Stevens, a teenage show in which he was the only decent actor. In Transformers I felt that it was LaBeouf who kept the film together with his brilliant acting and this was the main reason I kept watching. Megan Fox was simply laughable with some not so brilliant acting skills. Even when a car transformed into a gigantic robot in front of her eyes for the first time she didn't even look the slightest bit surprised. I think she was only cast in the film as a bit of eye candy really which, admittedly, she does do very well.

I think Transformers is a film all about CGI and action really rather than plot and storyline, which is intended to make you go 'wow' at the CGI and special effects rather than really following what is supposed to be happening. I'm still going to see the second film as I did enjoy the first and I'm going to be expecting myself to say 'wow' but also to be nudging my husband asking him what's going on!

Running time: 144 minutes
