Well my love affair with BEANIE BABIES started in February 1998. I happened to be speaking to and American gentleman from Houston who asked me about BEANIE BABIES.. Beanie what !!! He then said that if I could find him BRITANNIA he would pay me £100 and PRINCESS £60. Well this sounded wonderful if not too good to be true. So I started to look for BRITANNIA and his friends simple I thought any toy shop will be selling stuffed bean bag toys. But oh how wrong I was I couldn't find one anywhere, INCH BEANIE, PINKY BEANIE & lots of their friends but no bears. I had just had a new computer and my daughter got me hooked up to the internet to surf (I thought you did that in the sea) anyhow after spending hours searching I found Auction sites, EBay, AMAZON, YAHOO etc..Wow..needless to say I eventually found my BRITANNIA, PRINCESS, ERIN, GLORY, LIBEARTY & GARCIA to name but a few. I still have them and most of the others. I agree with what has been said about BEANIES going out of favour for POKEMON etc, but BEANIE BABIES have been going strong since 1993 and just look at all the new ones coming out,I wonder if POKEMON will still be collectible in 7 years time! My opinion is that they will be VERY collectible in years to come because of their limited production. Just look at Matchbox, Dinky and Barbie.. You have to watch out for countereit ones and there are some good authentication services available although I think they are mainly in America. I would be interested to know of any in the UK. Summing up BEANIE BABIES were introduced as a bean bag toy for children and in that I don't think you can deny there are a very good quality toy for the price, extremely well made and very cute. Ty Warner as well as making his fortune, has brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people children and adults alike and helped charities with his PRINCESS & ARIEL BEANIES which have helped to raise millions for good causes. The story of how Ty Warner got started in Beanies is another interesting story, but another time perhaps. Well I don't know if my man from Houston found his BRITANNIA's but he certainly started me collecting them... HOOKED till The End.
