Toy Story. I can't believe it was way back in 1995 when Disney (along with Pixar) released this computer animated piece of magic. Since the overwhelming success of Toy Story, Disney (yes, and Pixar) have released Toy Story 2, A Bugs Life, and most recently Monsters Inc. But it was the original Toy Story that burst the boundaries as the first feature-length animation to be completly created by computers.

All toys in the world of Toy Story (maybe in the real world...who knows?!) are a little bit special. They talk and come to life when no-one's around! Toy Story focusses around Andy's Toys...

Woody (voiced by Ton Hanks) - Andy's favourite. He's an old cowboy with a pull string voice thing. In all Andy's stories, he rescues...

Bo (voiced by Annie Potts) - as in Little Bo Peep. She loves Woody and he goes all gooey when he's round her! Probably because she's the only girl toy. She's a flirt. Woody can do better!

Mr. Potato Head (voiced by Don Rickles) - is the funny (in a sort of saracastic way) New York sounding guy. He can look whereever he wants to with his detachable eyes!

Slinkie (voiced by Jim Varney) - is basically a slinky toy with a doys head and rear on either end of the spring. Comes in very handy...

Dino (voiced by Wallace Shawn) - is the most fearful dinosaur ever! He can't even roar properly. Bless him.

Oh and there's toy binoculars (who come in handy in the story) an etch-a-sketch (very useful when things need drawing!) and a whole load of toy soldiers!

All the characters are fab.

If you've seen Toy Story, you might think I've forgotton someone...

**BUZZ LIGHTYEAR**

Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is the toy that Andy gets for his birthday (an event the toys dread). He is the best toy in town and Andy loves him. He even takes Woody's place on Andy's bed. Thus Woody becomes quite jealous. When Andy's away, Woody goes and sees what's so special about this new toy. Climbing up to the bed (from on the floor, he demoted postion in Andy's room) he is greeted by Buzz...a Space Ranger! Thing about Buzz is he really truely thinks he is a space ranger. No matter how hard Woody tries to convince him otherwise, Buzz thinks his communcation system with Star Command really works, that his lightbulb laser is deadly and that with his pop-out wings, he can really fly. He think Woody is some kind of weird alien ir bizarre Earthling.

All the toys (bar Woody) love Buzz! He's a bit of a hero in their eyes and it's him that does all the rescuing in Andy's stories. Woody's jealousy overcomes him a bit and plans a stunt to make Buzz fall out the window! Things go a bit pearshaped for old Woody from then on as the toys trun against him. It's now up to Woody to mend his ways. Even if it involves being friends with the dillusional Buzz and even risking his life. And risk his life he does. Woody (and Buzz) have a few near-misses before the ending. Cars, fireworks, the evil Sid and Scud next door - you name it!

But will all be OK? Will Woody be Andy's favourite toy? Will the toys forgive Woody? And will Buzz realise he's just a toy?!

So, that's an outline of the plot. But what is the actual film LIKE? The animation is brilliant. Even though it's not as arty and fine as classic Disney methods, it's detail and precison is amazing. Every shadow is detailed...as is every woodgrain and reflection in Buzz's space ranger helmet. the technology in Toy Story is stunning!

The film is full of jokes which are suitable for all the family and everyone should find this film amusing. This is mainly thanks to the brilliant vioces of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. They really made it.

Musically, there isn't as much as in a usual Disney film. Randy Newman does all the songs and, to be honest, they're not fantastic. No where near the standard of Alan Menken who wrote many of the more recent Disney classic scores (Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Aladdin etc).

Toy Story was a undoubtedly brilliant film. However, it's sequel, Toy Story 2 is even better! The character are familiar and therefore they don't need establishing so much. There are far more jokes and the rest of the toys feature more which really add the comedy.

If you haven't seen Toy Story, see that first! If you've seen Toy Story and haven't seen the sequel, you've missed out so far!

Hi. I've only rated as H because your opinion is more about the plot of the film, and not on the other details. I think you should include more of your opinion on whether you enjoyed the movie, if the story was funny/interesting etc.

I saw this over christmas, i'd not seen it before. I was surprised how good it was! I'll just have to wait for Toy Story 2 to come out on TV now! In the mean time i'm off to read your Toy Story 2 op!
