Andy is a little boy that absolutely adores his favourite toy Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), he’s a cowboy with a pull out string that says a few sentences. Woody is the ring leader of all the toys (they come alive when Andy’s not around, if they hear him coming, they play dead).
Things are getting rather nervous in the toybox of Andy’s bedroom, as Andy is having a birthday party… which means new toys… new favourite toys. And the collection of toys that he has, especially Woody, is scared that he will lose the affection of his beloved owner and get stuck in the toybox with the other toys.
The army of soldiers do a running commentary of the presents Andy received to an eagerly awaiting Woody, Mr Potato Head, Little Bo Peep and the other assorted toys. They all feel a sense of relief as there are no new toys to compete with… until his mum pulls out a mystery present. That’s when the army guys lose connection and nobody knows what the last remaining present was.
Minutes later, Andy dumps something on his bed and takes off with his friends, Woody goes to investigate and is greeted by a laser beam aimed and the voice of Tim Allen saying, ‘I’m trained to kill’. He introduces himself as Buzz Lightyear, a Space Ranger with a mission to defeat the evil Emperor Zurg. As he accepts Woody as harmless, he puts away his laser beam and begins to tell his mission, while Woody is frustrated with his story and tries to make him understand that he is JUST a toy, Buzz decides to prove his unique talents by spouting that he can fly. So he jumps off the bed, bounces off a ball, goes for a few rounds of the fan and lands safely back on the bed on his feet.
Andy becomes infatuated with his new toy and Woody becomes more and more jealous, Buzz is well liked by the others toys and Woody just feels pushed to the side. In a spiteful moment, Woody accidentally knocks Buzz out of the window, and the other toys who put Woody through a trial, accuse him of being a toy murderer.
So, Woody goes off to find Buzz to make amends and take him back to Andy’s room, this is where the adventure begins. Buzz isn’t too happy with Woody when they meet… naturally. Buzz’ mission is to find Emperor Zurg so Woody has to trick Buzz into thinking a pizza parlour is a space ship. They jump in a toy bin, and Sid, the evil toy-destroyer kid that lives next to Andy gets Buzz and Woody from the metal hand, known as the picker by the little green aliens. ‘You have been chosen’. The funniest part is when Buzz finally realises the horrible truth, that he is a toy and there are thousands of other Buzz’ just like him. He’s then turned into a girl having a tea party with a deformed doll. Hilarious.
They must escape Sid’s house and return to Andy’s before he moves house.
This is the best computer animated cartoon film that I’ve seen in a long time, you must see it!
