singer-songwriter's gruff voice), check out Toy Story 2. Here, we get a handful of memorable vocal numbers: Sarah McLachlan sings the breathy "When She Loved Me," Riders in the Sky give their retro-swing treatment to "Woody's Roundup," and Robert Goulet croons Toy Story's anthem "You've Got a Friend in Me." The soundtrack's orchestrations are pure Newman--sometimes sweeping, sometimes whimsical, and always fitting for this fantasy story of toys coming to life. Of course, the "You've Got a Friend in Me" theme keeps popping up in the instrumentals, as do Western-themed melodies. Nothing monumental here, but a fun soundtrack nonetheless. --Jason Verlinde

I am writing this review on yet another great achievement from Disney and Pixar Entertainment. Toy Story 2, is the sequel to the smash success of the original Toy Story. It stars the voices of Tom Hanks (as Woody the cowboy), Tim Allen (as Buzz Lightyear the Space Ranger), and Kelsey Grammer (as Stinky Pete the prospector).
Though at first I couldn't even imagine what a sequel would entail after seeing the first installment, I was delighted by the first review of it, and knew that I had to see it as soon as I could. And I wasn't dissapointed. The whole premise of the two movies is that the toys of a boy named "Andy", have lives of their own when he is not around. In this one, Andy has gone off to summer camp, and the toys are left to have adventures by themselves. What we soon discover as the audience, is that Woody is from an old television show, and the toy itself (him) is quite valuable. So valuable in fact, that he is stolen by a collector that happens to cross paths with Andy's family at a yard sale.
This collector and a cast of new characters, including Joan Cusack (as Jessie the cowgirl) go through a variety of escapades, as Buzz and the other toys try to save Woody from the kidnapper. Through the trip to find Woody, the toys come across various obstacles, that we take for granted in our lives, and they come up against enormous tasks because of their size.
Not only was this movie one of the funniest that I have ever seen, I was extremely impressed by all of the visual effects. This movie was done entirely by computer annimation, and is done to sheer perfection. I must warn you though, this is one of those movies that can tug at your heart-strings. Some parts of the movie try to show just how hard it is being a toy, and I couldn't help but show compassion towards some of them myself. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks have a great chemistry on the screen here, and it just goes to show that a cartoon can be just as hilarious as a comedy.
The biggest surprise of my movie-going experience though didn't happen until the end of the movie. Pixar had gone the extra mile to create out-takes from scenes within the movie itself. You think that watching out-takes from television shows is hilarious? Then check this out because it nearly caused me to fall out of my chair.
I highly recommend this movie to all age groups and I hope that everyone gets the chance to view this one!

...if anything, even better.
Toy Story, the product of a combination made in heaven between Mr Disney and Mr Pixar, was soon followed up by an excellent sequel. In reality you just got more of the same (plus the introduction of Jessie the Cow Girl, Stinky Pete the Prospector and a faithful cowboy horse, plus of course the delightful Mrs Potato Head keeping her grumpy old spouse under check), but the first episode was just so bloody wonderful that there ... ...certainly got it because Toy Story 2 was quite definitely a great bit of work.
Surprisingly, the makers originally saw the film as something which would go straight to video, but in the end they saw sense and went for the big screen anyway.
The story is slight, the characterisation fairly bland, but as a whole it's just excellent, to be recommended.
The big plus point is the bad guy of the piece, with The Simpsons' Comic Store Guy replaced by ...

...is one good reason why Toy Story 2 should be hailed as the masterpiece it so obviously is - for it totally contravenes the accepted rules of Hollywood filmmaking.
For some reason I've always had this odd notion that Pixar was actually independent of Disney - I did not know until now that they were linked together. I guess I should have looked at the box a little more closely. Anyway, as it is, I can say right of the bat that this particular animation ... ...I mean Al of Al?s Toy Barn. It eventually becomes clear that Woody was the leader of the posse in this cartoon, something which he has forgotten, and ...

...the original, but I think Toy Story 2 (TS2) has managed it, at least I think it has. Most Disney sequels are destined to go straight to video, some deserve it like the dire Lion King 2. TS2 was also destined to go to video but people at Pixar realized what they had and pushed for cinema release, the down side to this was they had to upgrade all work they had done so far so the quality was good enough for the big screen plus they added a few extra ... ...on the shelves in Al’s toy barn *

As you’d expect from Pixar the animation is superb and extremely cute. My only reservations with it are the humans, I think Pixar use toys and bugs etc. as they have shiny surfaces, which are easy to render. When it ...

...for kids either. Toy Story 2 revolves around Woody being stolen when his owner goes on holiday and this time, it is up to Buzz Lightyear and his toy pals to find Woody and rescue him before it is too late (he’s gone to an evil toy collector far, far away). While he’s toy-napped, Woody happens across other toys who 'just so happens' to be characters from his old television series which spawned the entire Woody line of toys to begin with. ... ...this sequel out-performs the first Toy Story. Although, with Jessie and Woody finding one another, it does somehow distract from Buzz and Woody's friendship found in the first film, but it bonds them even tighter once Buzz and his allies rescue Woody. But this gives clearance for Buzz to fight his own daemons in the form of Zerg (his arch-nemesis). There are also the memorable scenes with slight references to 'Star Wars' and of course, we have a ...

Advantages: Its got the two films and four excellent discs. Disadvantages: none
Having lost my previous release of ToyStory and ToyStory2 3 disc box set i was happy to find this new 4 disc release in the dvd charts for £19.96 in Tesco. This is a special edition so i'm guessing it won't be available after a short while.
I appologise for the lengthy review but there are many excellent features i feel they deserve a mention!
#History
Disney is a well established company but very little is known about Pixar. It started in 1984 when a Disney animator leaves and joins with George Lucas's special effects company group. The company, later bought by Steve Jobs became Pixar.
Without realising, Pixar have been all over our screens over the years and have produced many commercials including several for Listerine mouth wash and the fruit flavoured Polos.
Its really hard to believe that ToyStory is 10 years old ...
Advantages: Excellently animated film supported by a multitude of special features Disadvantages: None
the special features on offer included on an additional disc and Pixar have outdone themselves. The main feature is the audio commentary provided by Lasseter and his creative team. The chat is upbeat and jovial, I particularly enjoyed listening to them point out all of the films referenced to in the film, such as Jurassic Park and The Empire Strikes Back to name just two. The fake outtakes on the DVD also made me laugh as these I was familiar with from the first disc but there are also clever interviews with Buzz and Woody which are also an entertaining watch. Along with a making of documentry, some production featurettes, deleted scenes and games this is a package that covers all angles of ToyStory2, not leaving a single aspect of TS2 uncovered. This DVD confirms TS2 as the CGI film to beat. ...

that he just makes me cringe!
The DVD itself is really good because there are two disks, with loads of stuff to do and watch. There are deleted scenes and out takes which have been purposefully made using the characters. There is the making of ToyStory2 with commentary from the directors and producers; interviews with the crew who provide the voices for the characters and a debate over who is the 'hero' toy out of Buzz and Woody. There are games like 'what toy are you', sketches of the characters during production; how the toys are brought to life on screen etc...
I really enjoyed this film and typically, the ending was very 'happily ever after' for all the characters (except stinky Pete' - Even Zurg has a promising future with his 'son' (I won't say who if you haven't guessed!). I loved watching the development of the characters as ...
Andy goes off to summer camp and leaves the toys behind to do as they please for a few weeks. Much to Woody's amazement, a toy dealer discovers that Woody himself is a valuable collectable item. The dealer then kidnaps him and puts him up for sale leaving it up to Buzz Lightyear, Mr Potato Head, Rex, Slinky Dog and Hamm to save Woody.

DVD Description
In this dazzling sequel to the 1995 blockbuster, Andy heads off to summer camp, leaving the toys behind to fend for themselves. In much the same way Buzz discovered he is a mass-produced product in the first installment, Woody discovers that he is a valuable collectible spawned by a popular 1950s kiddie-puppet TV show, "Woody's Roundup Gang," when he is kidnapped by an evil toy collector, Al McWhiggin. Through Al, who plans to sell him to a Japanese toy museum, Woody is reunited with the toy versions of his TV cohorts--plucky cowgirl Jessie (Cusack), prospector Stinky Pete (Grammer), and trusty horse Bullseye. Woody must choose between seeing Andy grow up and forsake him and living a sterile but eternal life behind glass being admired--but not played with. Meanwhile, the rest of the original toy troupe undergoes a thrilling crosstown adventure to locate their kidnapped friend and restore him his rightful owner. Extremely entertaining, surprisingly touching, endlessly thrilling eye candy for anyone of any age. Golden Globe Winner: Best Motion Picture--Musical or Comedy. Includes outtakes and bonus short, "Luxo Jr.," plus a sneak preview of Disney/Pixar's MONSTERS INC.
